Today is a weird day of overlapping formats. Here’s the news.

  • Snapchat to Launch Gaming Platform
  • Forza Horizon 4 Pushes Mixer Live streaming

Snapchat Gaming

According to a report by TheInformation, Snapchat is looking to open up their own gaming platform. This comes as a surprise since the dwindling interest in facebook messenger’s gaming system has all but died at this point. The platform will allow Snapchat users to download and play third-party games from within the app. This project has been in development for the better part of a year so far and they’re looking to release in the fall. I’ve already been growing increasingly bothered by all the bloating and various junk slowing the app down to a crawl, maybe its time I drop the medium as a whole.

Forza Pushes Mixer

The upcoming racing game, boasting seasonal play and an open world environment, will be rewarding players for live streaming the game. Ars Technica had an interview with Playground Games’ art director Benjamin Penrose, who describes the game’s “stream-to-earn” system. The site reports that players will be able to earn in-game currency by “streaming your gameplay on Mixer.” Details such as the rate of currency earnings when and when not streaming remain unknown. we saw that “I’m on Mixer” was a preset emote in the game at E3, so they’re clearly investing a fair bit in this relationship. To be honest, I’m SUPER not a fan of this idea. Live streaming isn’t an easy task, and I’ll have to see the platform flooded with minimal effort broadcasts enabled purely to get more gold.

If you don’t know, Mixer is Microsoft’s live streaming service, comparable to Twitch and YouTube Gaming.

That’s all for today. Weird platform crossing. Tune in tomorrow for the last news post of the work week, as well as our latest podcast episode! I’ve seen an increase in traffic lately, and I think some of it is from the podcast listeners. If so, Hello! Anyways, have a great day!
