Tuesday 2-27-18: Yakuza 6, Night Driver, and Chrono Trigger

It’s Tuesday. and the longer I do this, the harder it is to come up with unique flavor text. Here’s the news.

  • Yakuza 6 Demo Complications
  • Night Driver Mobile Game
  • Chrono Trigger Controversy

Yakuza 6 Demo Bug

The downloadable demo for Yakuza 6: Song of Life released worldwide today. With it, users could play the first chapter of the game and have your progress be saved for the full game. At first, people were put off by its weirdly large file size. As it turns out, this was because the demo contains the entire game. The U.S. players discovered a glitch that allowed them to break past the demo wall, and play the rest of the game. Sega has since removed the demo from the market and is patching it immediately.

Night Driver: Pocket Edition

Atari has risen from their tomb of rest, and with it, Night Driver. The popular 1987 arcade racing game is being revitalized with a mobile game. Now with modern graphics, customizable cars, and all that sweet, sweet vaporwave aesthetic. The game has soft-launched in Canada, with no word on a worldwide release.

Chrono Triggered

The classic RPG about time travel was unexpectedly published on Steam today. Fans of the game were ecstatic with an official PC port, only to quickly turn to anger. the PC version of the game was identical to the mobile port, which wasn’t good. Transcribing that again to PC only made it worse. Now the fandom is (quite vocally) expressing their discontent with Square Enix’s continued reputation for horrible game ports.

Thanks for reading, everyone. Today was a fairly interesting news day. My sympathies to the people bothered by the Chrono Trigger thing. Check back tomorrow for more interesting video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 2-26-18: Blockchains, Zenyatta, and Girl Streamers

Welcome to another week! It’s Monday and boy do I have news. Here is that news.

  • Ubisoft is Interested in Blockchains
  • Overwatch lets Zenyatta Walk
  • Twitch Offers a Grant for Girls

Blockchains and Business Buzzwords

You read it correctly, Ubisoft is interested in blockchains. Their research facility, Strategic Innovation Lab, recently expressed interest in using the complex information storage system to track user-owned content. Imagine if you owned your DLC the same way you would own Bitcoin. It’s an interesting idea that I don’t really understand, to be honest.

Zenyatta Uses His Feet

Overwatch’s social media game has always been fairly on point. Their public relations too. I recall when last Christmas they had Jeff Kaplin sitting in a chair for 8 hours, which quickly went viral. Now they’ve found a new way to upset their fans in the best way. They released footage of Zenyatta using his feet to walk, instead of his usual floating. You can see it for yourself, if you dare.

1,000 Dreams Fund’s Twitch Broadcasther Grant

That’s not a typo from me. According to the website, it’s “Broadcasther” grant. I get it’s supposed to be broadcast-her, but I’m reading it as a “th” sound. I digress. This grant is a new program between Twitch and 1,000 Dreams Fund to encourage more female livestreamers. They will reward 2 high school/college students with $2,000 for the purpose of furthering their live stream career. If you’re an up and coming female streamer, or just want to learn more about this program, you can visit the 1000 Dreams Fund website. Applications will open Thursday, March 1, at 9 AM EST.

Thanks for your patience with my missing days. The new computer is working fantastically. With any luck, I can start casually live streaming. No, I’m not going for that grant. Check back tomorrow for another post full of nifty news! Otherwise, have a great night!

  • Fornite: Battle Royale Season 3

Rocket League, Beat That!

Real Life Rocket League
Developers Psyonix has partnered with How Wheels to bring about a real-life Rocket League board game. This game, featured at the New York Toy Fair, is played with small RC cars controlled via smartphone. Much like the video game, the goal is to bump a large ball into the goal. Expect it on store shelves by holiday 2018 for $180.00. You can also check out video footage from the CNET Instagram.

Hidetaka Suehiro’s The Missing

The Missing
The creator of Deadly Premonition, Hidetaka Suehiro, has announced his next game, titled The Missing. This is the first game from his new studio, White Owl, and so far we know almost nothing about the game. It’s for those who are familiar with loss, be it an item, a place, or a feeling. He talks more about it in the reveal trailer.

Fortnite: Battle Royale…. IN SPACE!

The second season of the popular battle royale game is coming to a conclusion soon. With this, developers Epic Games have released the details for the next season, which will be space themed. So far the only item we know about is a Space Suit. So stay tuned.

  • Sea of Thieves Stress Tests
  • Farming Simulator 19
  • OPUS: Rocket of Whispers

Sea of Thieves Scale Test

The highly anticipated game of pirates and sailing recently concluded their closed beta. Developer Rare has learned a lot from this experience and is now looking to test the changes they’ve made accordingly. How? With another stress test! The first test is taking place Friday, February 16 at 10 am GMT and will go until Sunday, February 18 at 10 am GMT. That’s this weekend. It will be available to all closed beta members, as well as Xbox Insider members. Happy sailing!

Farming Simulator 19

That’s right, Farming Simulator is back and better than ever. More details are will be released later on. Until then, check out the reveal trailer.

OPUS: Rocket of Whispers

I have another review to link to. But wait, this isnt my usual client. Perhaps because I have a new client! I am now writing news and reviews for backlogcritic.com! They’re a fresh new site that’s climbing the ranks quite quickly. You can see news by me daily, but for now check out my review of the indie adventure title, OPUS: Rocket of Whispers.

Thanks for reading, everyone. I’m currently contemplating another site rework. With my schedule changing around, and better website themes coming to my attention, I might have to make some changes that I believe will be better for the site as a whole. Time will tell. Check back tomorrow for more gaming news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 2-14-18: Gameplay Footage and Pro Gamer Girls

Its Wednesday and I can’t think of any flavor text. Here’s the news.

  • Gameplay Footage of Vampyr
  • Gameplay Footage of The Call of Cthulhu
  • Overwatch League Signs First Female Player

Vampyr Gameplay

Dontnod Entertainment is best known for Life is Strange, now their dipping their toes into a dark RPG called Vampyr. In this game, you play a doctor in 1918 London who has recently been stricken with vampirism. Use your newfound powers to help, or take advantage of, the town’s citizens. The news here is that video footage of gameplay has recently been released. Check it out for yourself. It certainly looks interesting.

The Call of Cthulhu Gameplay

There’s a 2018 remake of the famous 1981 first-person RPG, The Call of Cthulhu. In this game, you’re a private investigator who, while investigating a murder, discover the inevitable coming of the Old One, Cthulhu. From the same source as above, gameplay footage has been released. I’m especially excited for this game.

Overwatch League’s First Female Participant

Kim “Geguri” Se-Yeon has recently been signed onto Overwatch League team Shanghai Dragons. The team had a very poor start this season, and are hoping to improve their performance for the next stage with a number of new players. eSports being as male-dominant as it is, its good to see more women getting involved. I’m told she plays an amazing Zarya.

Today was 66% gameplay videos, not that I’m complaining. I’ve got a new editorial coming soon. Check back tomorrow for the next day of news and new accessories. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 2-12-18: Izushi, Amiibos, and Monsters Inc

Monday returns, unbeknownst to me. Here’s the weekend’s news.

  • Takehiro Izushi Retires
  • Marina and Pearl Amiibos
  • Monsters Inc in Kingdom Hearts 3
Takehiro Izushi

You probably won’t recognize his name, but he is a man worth recognition. He began as an engineer at Nintendo in 1975. In his many years of service, he produced many well-known game titles (Metroid Fusion, Pokemon Yellow, WarioLand 4). In his later years, he transitioned to General Affairs. Now he’s retired. You were an invaluable asset to Nintendo, Takehiro Izushi. I hope you have a pleasant retirement.

Splatoon 2 Amiibo

After many months, Pearl and Marina are finally getting their own Amiibo. They will be sold in a 2 pack for $24.99 later this year. Check out this tweet by Nintendo for a small video about it.

Monsters Inc in Kingdom Hearts 3

A new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 has been revealed at D23 Japan 2018. In this trailer, we see a number of cutscenes as well as gameplay. The biggest news about this is the confirmation of a Monsters Inc world. Watch the trailer yourself here.

Thanks for reading, everyone. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Friday 2-9-18: Dragon Ball, Nintendo, and Final Fantasy Mobile

Friday, finally. This week is killing me. You know whats not dead? Current events, here’s the news.

  • Dragon Ball FighterZ Producer to Fight at EVO 2018
  • Nintendo Talks About Plans
  • Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition

Dragon Ball ProducerZ

Tomoko Hiroki, the producer of the most recent Dragon Ball fighting game, announced that she will be participating in the upcoming EVO tournament. The tournament will take place Main Stage on Sunday at EVO 2018.

Nintendo Plans

The game company recently released the English QA transcript of their corporate management policy briefing for this most recent quarter. They primarily discuss Labo and the Switch, but also (but not really) talk about the 3DS. you can read it here.

Final Fantasy Chibi

The mobile phone version of Final Fantasy XV released today. Everything chibi-fied to make it manageable on small devices, you can now download chapter 1 for free. The catch? To play all 10 chapters, it costs about $30. Square Enix tends to overprice mobile games, and this is just more proof of that. Make what you will of this.

Sorry for the lazy writing today.I’m killing myself with work right now and just want to rest for the weekend. Check back on Monday for a roundup of the weekend news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 2-7-18: Hugh Hancock, CD Projekt Red, Google Games, and The X-Files

Wednesday, the middle child in a family of 7. Here’s the news.

  • Machinima.com Founder Has Passed Away
  • CD Projekt Red to Attend E3 For Some Reason
  • Google to Start a Game Streaming Service
  • The X-Files: Deep State Review

The Passing of Hugh Hancock

It is with a heavy heart to report the passing of Hugh Hancock. An animator since 1997, and Machinima.com creator in 2000, he coined the term “machinima” into the major concept it is today. He passed away suddenly on Monday from a supposed heart attack. My condolences go out to his friends and family.

E3 Projekt Red?

The popular developer best known for The Witcher game series has appeared on E3’s “Participating Companies” ticker, found on their website. This was first discovered by Reddit user bronzin54. But the problem is: we don’t know what they have planned. Will there be a big announcement, or are they just there as a formality? Perhaps more info about Cyberpunk 2077 is coming. Frankly, we don’t know. Let me know what you guys think it might be.

Google’s Yeti

According to a report by subscription news source, The Information, Google is looking to get into the games streaming service. We don’t mean things like YouTube Gaming and Twitch. We’re talking about streaming games to the player. A Netflix for games, if you will. We’ve seen this with PlayStation Now, and others. So the concept isn’t unknown. How successful they will be is a different story. The program, codenamed “Yeti” was supposed to release last year, which means it might not be doing as good as it sounds. Only time will tell.

The X-Files: Deep State Review

I’ve reviewed another game. This time it’s the official X-Files mobile game. Its one of those narrative-driven search-and-find type games. It’s actually really good, and its free. You can read my thoughts on it in my full review here.

Thanks for reading everyone. Today was an unmotivated day, but I bore with it. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the next in news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Tuesday 2-6-18: Hate Speech, Leaks, and Publishers

It’s that darn Tuesday again, comin’ in thinking he’s so cool. Here’s the news.

  • Subnautica Sound Director Fired For Hateful Behavior
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Leak
  • Viz Media Video Game Publishing

Sub-not-ica

The popular underwater survival game encountered a touch of controversy recently. The game’s sound designer, Simon Chylinski, has a long history of sexist, racist, and transphobic remarks on his Twitter profile. When this was brought to light, developers Unknown Worlds decided to let him go, stating that he “made many hateful statements online that are against our company values. ” I read a few comments and I agree, they’re better off without him.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Leaks

Gaming website TrustedReviews.com recently released a major leak for Rockstar’s upcoming wild west RPG. According to the site, they’ve had this information since September of last year, but held off on releasing the info until the could better verify its authenticity. The leak remarks on a number of features, most notably of which is a Battle Royale multiplayer mode. Like always, take any and all leaks with a grain of salt. You can read the full leak details in their post.

Viz Media, More than Manga

Major Japanese-American publishing company Viz Media has announced that they will be entering the video game publishing scene. Their first title will be Rose City Games’ The World Next Door. Viz Media stated that they want to focus on story-driven games and that developers are welcome to inquire. The World Next Door is the story of a teenage girl in a magical world. So far all we know about the game is the Key Art, as seen above. There is no release window at this time.

Thank you, everyone, for tuning in. I apologize if today’s is later than normal, it been a busy day. I have something I will be announcing soon, once I’m sure it’s a solid thing, so stick around. I’m very excited for it. Check back tomorrow for another in an infinite plan to post the news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 2-5-18: Space Hulk, Assassin’s Creed Hacked, Monster Hunter Rankings, Crash Bandicoot Rumors, and Overgrowth Reviews

Monday is upon us, and with it a weekend of news. Here is that news.

  • Blood Bowl Creators Announced Space Hulk: Tactics
  • Hackers Crack Assassin’s Creed: Origins
  • Monster Hunter: Worlds Top Ranked on Xbox
  • Rumors Spread of Crash Bandicoot Port/New Game
  • Overgrowth Review

Space Hulk: Tactics
Remember Blood Bowl? That nifty turn-based strategy game styled like a fantasy football match? Well the creators of that, Cyanide Studio, have announced that they are making a new Space Hulk game. This game, originally based on a board game, is a turn-based strategy game based on the Warhammer 40K universe, where space marines are clearing out giant asteroids inhabited by hostile life. This new game will not just look amazing but feature multiple campaigns, modes, and factions to choose from, complete with online multiplayer. You can see more details about it on the Official Website.

Assassin’s Crack: Origins
It’s taken popular hacker group CPY 3 months to crack the most recent Assassin’s Creed game. The title had not 1, but 3 different anti-tampering systems in place to keep the game from being pirated, and the delay is a result of that. These systems are most important during a game’s initial launch, so Ubisoft might patch the game to remove them, but its unlikely. It goes to show, no game is uncrackable.

Rankings Hunter: Xbox
The popular dino-destroying RPG has been all the buzz since its release 10 days ago. In this time, it has managed to become the number 1 spot on Xbox’s Top Paid games list, beating out PUBG. This is an incredible achievement. Even more so, in the small times, it’s been out, its already reached 7th place on Xbox’s Most Played list. Give it a few weeks and I’m sure it’ll make its way to the top there as well. Keep in mind that this is purely for Xbox and doesn’t count PS4 sales, and PC’s eventual sales, when it releases this autumnal season.

N.Sane Returns
In the most recent issue of Licensing Source Book Europe, Max Arguile, The seeds of rumors and begun to sow for Crash Bandicoot. Max Arguile, Licensing Manager for licensed merchandising company BG Eye, remarked on Crash Bandicoot and its licensed position in the next few years. He claims that Activision has a 5-year plan, and tells us to expect not only a Switch and PC for of the N.Sane Trilogy but a new Crash game in the following year. It hasn’t been confirmed how accurate this source of information is, but I am recording it for prosperity. Who knows, he may be right.

Overgrowth
I’ve finished a new review this weekend. This time it was for Overgrowth, an action RPG about anthropomorphic animals. You can read the full details of the review here.

Thanks for reading, everyone. Expect to see another review by me here shortly. I’ll give you a hint of what it’s about, just open up your eyes to the extreme possibility. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more of the latest and greatest in video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

You read that right, Shaq is back with a new fighting game. This time its a 3D beat-em-up style game with improved action, music, and upgrades. You can see details about it, as well as a trailer video, at its official website.

Far Cry 5 DLC

The season pass was recently announced, and it packs a punch with 3 bizarre expansions.Dead Living Zombies pits the player against hordes of zombies in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Hours of Darkness, where you are dropped into the Viet Cong at its worst. Lost on Mars lands the player in, you guessed it, Mars. There you’ll fight for your life against alien spiders. Thursday: 2-1-18: Duke Nukem is Gone, id IPs are Related, and Mario Kart Mobile Game

It’s already Thursday. Seems like this week is going fast. Here’s the news.

  • Duke Nukem 3D Disappears From Steam
  • id Software Says all of Their IPs are Related
  • Nintendo Announced Mario Kart Mobile Game

Duke Nukem: Unlisted
For unknown reasons, Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour has gone missing from the Steam Marketplace. This has happened twice before when Duke Nukem 3D was removed and replaced by Metaton Edition under publishing rights of Devolver Digital, and again with the release of Kill-a-Ton 2015 Collection when ownership was handed to Gearbox. This version would later be replaced with what used to be the current version, Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour. Now this version has been taken down from the marketplace. It’s possible the Nukem name is changing hands once more. It’s also possible that this is in relation to the rumored Duke Nukem movie. Either way, time will tell.

All of id is Related
When 2 id Software related game designers were talking over twitter, they confirmed the idea that the protagonists of Wolfenstein, Doom, and Commander Keen are all related. This theory has been speculated over time, only now has it been confirmed by id Software co-founder, Tom Hall. According to Hall, Wolfenstein’s BJ Blazkowicz is the grandfather of Commander Keen, who is the father of the Doom Marine. Hall jokes with ex-id staff John Romero, about how the “badass” skipped a generation with Keen’s father, whom they say was a newscaster. Honestly, I’m not sure how to feel about this revelation. I can absolutely see why BJ and Doomguy are related, but the pasty white boy that is Keen really throws you for a loop.

Mario Kart Tour
Nintendo of America announced via Twitter that they are now in development of their next mobile game, Mario Kart Tour. Absolutely nothing is known about the game outside of its name, and a projected release zone of “the fiscal year ending in March 2019.” Nintendo has done well to make high quality, albeit short-lived, mobile games, so I’m very curious to see what direction they take this. I expect it to be the biggest thing of all time for a week or two, until it fades back to obscurity. When was the last time I heard anyone talk about Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp?

Thanks for reading. Viewership this month has been greater than normal. I’m really glad to see that people are starting to take a liking to what I’m doing here. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest in video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!
