Tuesday 1-30-18: Facebook Streaming, Paragon Closing, This Is The Police 2, and Anthem Delays

It’s Tuesday and I didn’t post yesterday! I’m sorry, I was just too excited to play more Monster Hunter. Here’s the news over the last few days.

  • Facebook Livestream Monetization
  • Paragon to Close Down
  • This Is The Police 2
  • Anthem Delays Until 2019

Facebook Streamer Support
In an effort to make Facebook a more viable live streaming platform (ha), the social media site has announced a new program called the “Gaming Creator Pilot program.” This program will allow viewers to send the streamer a real-money tip. Think of it like the Bits on Twitch. Personally, this doesn’t make Facebook any more viable than Twitch or Youtube, or even Mixer. Regardless, interested individuals can apply for the program here.

Para-Gone
Epic Games’ unpopular MOBA hasn’t done well, apparently bad enough that they’re shutting it down. Epic released a statement that the game didn’t quite reach what they wanted and they will be pulling the plug. The apologized for letting the fans down. Epic has also stated that they will be issuing refunds to all their players via their Epic account. Its unfortunate to see a major project be put to rest.

This Is The Police is Back

THQ Nordic announced a new game. Its a sequel to their previous game, This Is The Police. Much like before, you are a sheriff who has to manage your police force while solving the weird things happening in the small, cold, crime-ridden town you work in. The game will be available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC later this year. More details can be found about it here.

Anthem Delays, Not Behind Schedule
According to Wall Street Journal reporter Sarah E. Needleman, EA has announced that Anthem will be delayed back to early 2019. They made an exclusive point to say that this is not because development is behind schedule, but that they want to release a new Battlefield game in October, and pushing Anthem back would be better for the game’s sales.

Thanks for reading. I’m considering moving the daily update posts to the mornings instead of it being the last thing I do in the day. Pros: you won’t be reading yesterday’s news every day. Cons: if something newsworthy happens in the evening, it won’t be reported on until tomorrow. Let me know if you guys have any input on this.
Otherwise, have a great night!

Thursday 1-25-18: Miitomo Shutting Down, Super Zelda 64, and Monster Hunter: World

Thursday is upon us, and with is a mysterious air. Here’s the news.

  • Miitomo is Shutting Down
  • Modder Recreates Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Super Mario 64
  • Monster Hunter: World Releases Tonight

The Fall of Miitomo
Nintendo has announced that their first mobile app, Miitomo, will be closing on May 9, 2018. The social network app was a creative way to combine Miis into a social format. Unfortunately, it was too much a game, and not enough a social network. The inability to send messages, post statuses, etc caused interest in the game to drop harshly. Players will not be able to purchase any in-game currency starting today, though they can still get coins and such by playing.
Rest in Peace, Miitomo. You were almost good.

Super Zelda 64

Popular SM64 Modder Kaze Emanuar, best known for creating Super Mario 64 Online, is recreating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Super Mario 64. This project is more than just dropping Mario in a perfect likeness of the Zelda map. The game has been modified to be a blend between the Zelda world and story, and the Mario mechanics. The project isn’t completed yet, but the creator is posting updates via their social media. Check out a video detailing this mod here. It has a nice commentary, too.

Monster Hunter: World Release

Oh yea boys its Monster Hunter time! Or it will be in a few hours, that is. The long-awaited title is due to release tonight at midnight. Some people who preordered the game in-store have been receiving the copy early. Alas, I purchased it digitally, so I have to wait until midnight. Good luck with your carves, hunters!

Wednesday 1-24-18: Subnautica Launch, EVE Battle Bust, and Arizona Sunshine

It’s Wednesday and boy are my arms tired. Here’s the news

  • Subnautica Leaves Early Access
  • EVE: Online Battle Results
  • Arizona Sunshine Review

Subnautica Launch
That open world ocean survival game has finally left early access and with that comes a big number of fantastic improvements to the game. For those not familiar with the game, check out their new and improved webpage. Subnautica can be found on Steam for $24.99.

Million Dollar Bust
Yesterday I reported on an upcoming EVE: Online battle that was expected to cost over a million dollars. That battle has now taken place, and the final asset toll tallies up to… $4,000. The battle came up extremely short. This was because 6,000 players arrived at the scene to take place in the expected onslaught. The game servers simply couldn’t handle this much, which caused many players’ games to crash and connections to be lost. So none of the big, expensive plans took place. This is certainly a shame.

Arizona Sunshine
I published a new article on my site, here. It’s a review of the VR shooter, Arizona Sunshine. It’s an amazing game that was ruined by a single flaw. I’ve had this review sitting for months, and it’s been revised numerous times. I wanted to make sure it came out as high quality as it could be. Be sure to check it out.

Thanks for reading. Not much news today. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more up-to-date happenings in the blogosphere. #fleek am I right fellow kids? As always, have a great night!

Tuesday 1-23-18: Saw in Dead by Daylight, John Cena as Duke Nukem, and The Million Dollar EVE Battle

Its that weird point in time that my editor refers to as “Tuesday.” Whatever that means. Here’s the news.

  • New Dead By Daylight Killer: The Pig
  • EVE: Online Preps a Million Dollar Battle
  • John Cena as a Cinematic Duke Nukem

Saw’d By Piglight
The popular asynchronous horror game is moving on their next chapter, The Saw Chapter. this game update adds a new killer, a new survivor, and a new map. The main attraction is the killer, The Pig. This character is based on the protege from the Saw movies. Her power is to move silently, placing reverse beartraps on people’s heads. I stopped watching Saw after the 3rd one, so I have no idea who she is. I do know that I absolutely hate pigs in a horror environment, they freak me the hell out. The new character is named David Tapp, and the new map is called “Gideon Meat Plant.” This new content can be purchased at the relevant marketplaces for $6.99. Check out the Video for it here.

EVE Online’s Million Dollar Battle
The popular space economy game, full of mining, transporting, building, and fighting is under some high tensions right now. Heres a quick backstory: About 4 years ago there was a massive battle between 2 of the largest alliances in the game. The battle resulted in about $300,000 worth of game assets destroyed. Since then, the victor has sold off their army and tried to KickStart a biography. Other players were strongly against this idea and tried to build up a rebellion against his empire. That fell short when their main funder was banned for association with a CS:GO gambling scandal. Even then, an impressive army was built. Now the previous victor is back with his own battalion.
Everyone is expecting another large-scale battle to take place, one approximately triple the size of the last one. So EVE is basically in the Cold War phase of things right now. You bet your boots and cats I’ll be sure to follow up on this when something happens.

John Cena as Duke Nukem
There have been rumors going around of a Duke Nukem movie, at least according to HollywoodReporter. They’re saying that the movie rights have been acquired by Paramount and is to be produced by Platinum Dunes, a company run by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. Famous Wrestler John Cena is currently in talks about playing the titular role. This makes sense, Cena has an established history with Paramount movies. I can only pray that this actually happens. I want this almost as badly as I want the Rampage movie.

Thanks once more for reading. This was a fun news day. Be sure to check back tomorrow for whatever reportable stuff happens then. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 1-22-18: Beat Saber, Call of Duty: Prop Hunt, PlayStation Shoes and Figurines, and Rust Goes Gold

Monday again! For only the 105,297th time. Here’s the weekend news.

  • Beat Saber, the VR slashing rhythm game
  • Call of Duty: WWII to add Prop Hunt
  • PlayStation Shoes by Nike
  • PlayStation Figurines
  • Rust is leaving Early Access

Beat Saber, the Techno Jedi
I like to keep an eye out for new VR games. By that, I mean that I get excited whenever I see them on whatever internet outlet I’m browsing. This time We’ve come across Beat Saber. This game is a rhythm game like guitar hero, except that instead of strumming a plastic guitar, you’re in VR swinging lightsabers at blocks flying at you to the tune of some just stanky dubstep (the good kind of stanky). You can check out their recent teaser trailer here, its hype.

Call of Duty: Prop Hunt
The most recent Call of Duty game, WWII, has a special event taking place called The Resistance. In this event, there are free guns, double exp, and the temporary return of Demolition mode. The most notable feature, however, is the tease of a Prop Hunt mode. According to the event’s website page, players can participate in Prop Hunt, a hide and seek game mode inspired by the popular Garry’s Mod game. This event will be playable February 6 to 12, and 20 to 27. Get in on it while you can. You can watch a trailer for the Resistance even here.

Played Up Kicks
Do you like PlayStation? Do you like shoes? Well we put PlayStation into some shoes for you, dawg. Sony has partnered with Nike and Paul George to come up with the PG2 PlayStation Colorways. This sweet piece of footwear is decked inside and out with the console’s likeness. It even comes with a Dynamic theme download code! The release date is some time next month, with no word on price. I’m going to guess it’s a lot.
Check out the reveal trailer here.

The Totaku Collection
Ok may you don’t want shoes, how about some figurines instead? Sony has also partnered with Gamestop/ThinkGeek in an entirely unrelated event to bring about a small line of PlayStation game characters as 4-inch tall figurines. The series, called the Totaku Collection, includes 7 different characters, each priced at $9.99. They are as follows.

  • The Hunter, from Bloodborne
  • Crash Bandicoot, Titular
  • Parappa the Rapper, Titular
  • Kratos, from God of War
  • The Feisar FX350 racing ship, from Wipeout
  • Sackboy, from LittleBigPlanet
  • Heihachi, from Tekken

The Figures’ release date is March 23, and they will be sold exclusively at GameStop.

Golden Rust
Remember Rust? That weird open-world survival game where you ran around with a rock for hours and got shot by some random guy with a gun? After 4 years of early access, developers Facepunch Studios have announced that they will be formally releasing the game on February 8, 2018. This means a few things. They will now be focusing on stability and bug squishing, they will update monthly, instead of weekly, and the price of the game has risen from $20 to $35. I’m happy for the developers, and I hope them the best. You can read more about it at the developer blog post.

Long weekend. I went out of town to visit family. I had to do my work with my mini travel laptop (nicknamed The Gecko) since my main computer is garbage when not fully plugged into my mess of cables. I also have been given more work, I’m now writing news posts for Prepslife.com, A Social Prepper Network. Think camping and survival and such.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest and greatest in video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Friday 1-19-18: We Happy Few Delays, God of War Season Pass, and Accounting+ VR

I’m sorry for disappearing all week. More on that below. otherwise, here’s the news!

  • We Happy Few is delayed
  • God of War won’t have season passes
  • Accounting+ Review

We Happy Few Delays
To the surprise of no one, the horror survival game has been delayed once more. The developers released a video today making the announcement. They believe the the first 2 hours of the campaign aren’t good representations of the game, and want to rework that. To make it up to fans, the also teased the second playable character, Sally.

God of War Seasonless Pass
The game’s director, Cory Balrog, stated in a Tweet that the upcoming God of War game will not have season passes. He also stated that he is having a lot of fun with the game, but that isn’t important to the news part of things. Whether this means that the game won’t have post-launch DLC, or just that the DLC it will have wont be bundled into a season pass style thing remains unknown. Time will tell.

Accounting+ VR Review
I wrote another review recently, this time for the Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty creator) written VR title, Accounting+. I also did a 2 part video of the game, going through what I think is it’s entirety. You can check out the article HERE. Here’s a hint of what I thought: not bad.

Thank you everyone for reading. I’m sorry for not posting all week. I’m going out of town and I had to kick things into gear to get everything done on time. Unfortunately this proved to be a touch exhausting, and the site got put on the back burner. If I ever manage to make writing my full time job, I promise to be MUCH better about my consistency. Come back Monday for the weekend news summed up. Otherwise, have a great night!

Thursday 1-11-18: Luigi Odyssey, Dark Souls on Switch, and Trump’s F-52 Mistake

Thursday! I forgot to post yesterday, I’m sorry! Here’s the news.

  • First Mario Odyssey Update Add Luigi
  • Dark Souls Announced for Nintendo Switch (and others)
  • Trump Says We Sold Planes from Call of Duty

Luigi’s Balloon World
The first update for Super Mario Odyssey has been announced. The free update will add a new game feature called Luigi’s Balloon World. In the game you can now find Luigi, talking to him will allow you to take on the quest of either hiding, or finding, a balloon. The catch? The balloon will be hunted down by another player in the world, or you will be hunting down a balloon another player has hidden, respectively. This is an incredibly creative way to find new life in the 3D platformer. Expect the update around February.

Dark Souls for Switch
That’s right, the famously punishing RPG will be getting a remaster, one that will not only be coming to PS4 and Xbox One, but Nintendo Switch as well! The expected launch of that is on May 25, 2018.

Trump Mistakes Jets
In a statement pertaining to the sale of fighter jets to Norway, Trump accidentally claimed we had F-52 fighter jets. The problem is that the F-52 Fighter Jet is an entirely fictional aircraft that exists in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The quote itself is as follows.

In November we started delivering the first F-52s and F-35 fighter jets. We have a total of 52 and they’ve delivered a number of them already a little ahead of schedule.

I can see where he got his numbers confused, but this is still pretty unprofessional. A nation’s leader should be absolutely certain of their words when discussion weapon sales to foreign countries.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading, everyone. I was caught up yesterday with recording new video footage for a client. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more amazing news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Tuesday 1-9-18: HTC Vive Pro and Subnautica Launch

Tuesday and it already feels like a long week. Here’s the news.

  • HTC Vive announces new HMD and Wireless Adapter
  • Subnautica announces Launch Stream

HTC Vive Stuff

HTC Vive announced a number of new goodies for the popular VR headset. The biggest of that is the Vive Pro, a higher resolution, and overall better quality Head mounted display. This also includes improved audio, and more comfortable balanced headpiece. The other item of interest is the official Vive Wireless Adapter, which does what the name implies, its a wireless adapter. You can read more about it here.

Subnautica Release

The open world alien ocean survival game will finally be leaving early access. I don’t know what exactly that entails, but the devs will be doing a live stream of the launch at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where we will see dev interviews, a cinematic trailer, the button push, and even some real fish! The game will release 1.0 on January 23. Details here.

Long day, time to rest! Be sure to check back tomorrow for more news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Friday 1-5-18: Mad Catz, Paladins: Battlegrounds, Burnout Paradise HD, and Pokemon GO in China.

Friday is here and I cannot be happier its the weekend. Work killed me this week. Here’s the news.

  • Mad Catz is making a comeback
  • Paladins announced a Battle Royale mode
  • Burnout Paradise HD Remaster in Japan
  • Pokemon GO in China

Mad Catz Cant Stop won’t Stop
The popular gaming peripheral creator was 27 years old last year when they filed for bankruptcy. This caused an upset stir amongst gamers, who had grown to know the Mad Catz brand as that controller you’re parents would get when they didn’t want to buy officially licensed controllers. Turns out they’re not done yet. A video announcement was made saying that Mad Catz is back again, this time branding themselves as high-end gaming gear to compete with brands like Razor. GG Mad Catz, keep on living the dream.

Paladins: Battlegrounds
That title sounds like a joke, but it isn’t. Paladins have announced that they are working to release a new update to the game, featuring a new game mode called Battlegrounds. As you may expect, this is a battle royale style game mode, pitting 100 players against each other to be the last one standing. The free-to-play aspect of Paladins attracted many fans to the hero shooter, though it looks like being the poor man’s Overwatch wasn’t enough. Personally, I’m fairly disinterested in this bandwagoning. You can watch the announcement trailer here.

Burnout Paradise HD
Early December we heard rumors of an HD remake of the open world racing game coming to consoles worldwide. the rumors were based on retailer listings. Now EA has announced that a Burnout Paradise HD Remaster will be coming to PlayStation 4 in Japan on March 16. While it seems the rumors are true, this brings up the question. What about the rest of the world? Its possibly Sony manages an exclusivity deal, though we really have nothing but speculation to go on right now. Maybe time will tell. I used to play Paradise, great game.

Pokemon GO in China
The mobile game was originally banned in China due to government concerns. Niantic has recently announced that they are partnering with Chinese publisher NetEase to bring the game to the country. They are looking to make the game ready by the second half of 2018. Good for China.

That’s all! Thank goodness. I’d love to say how ready I am to relax this weekend, but I have a hefty backlog of journalism work to catch up on. Tomorrow will be a pretty long day of work as well. Though I derive much more enjoyment from this job than my day job. My favorite part is writing your you, the reader! Check back Monday to hear what cool news has happened this weekend. Otherwise, have a great night!

Thursday 1-4-18: Rocket League Milestones and Several Steam Awards

Thursday has descended upon us like a mighty rain. Here’s the news, it’s not much.

  • Rocket League hits 40 million players
  • The 2017 Steam Awards winners are announced

40 Million Rocket Cars
That’s right, the news is essentially in the title. Rocket League has recently announced via their twitter that there are 40 million players. Granted, this likely includes the instances of singular people purchasing the game for multiple systems. Even then, that is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations, Psyonix.

The 2017 Steam Game Awards

Last year Steam started having community voting based awards for games. These awards aren’t just “best RPG” or anything, but eccentric titles like “Soul of Vitruvius.” Well, the second annual Steam Awards have concluded, and all the winners are more or less what you’d expect. You can read the award list for yourself here.

That’s all there is today. Mild, I know. I’m thinking about removing the Amazon ads, as they aren’t really what I’m wanting. we will see. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest and greatest in video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 1-3-18: PUBG Plagiarism, Monster Hunter PC, and LawBreakers Blamed PUBG

Wednesday. Have I made a joke about how NES is in the middle of Wednesday? A joke as old as the NES is itself. Here’s the news.

  • Microsoft takes down the plagiarized advertisement
  • Monster Hunter: World on PC gets a release window, kinda
  • LawBreaker’s publisher blames PUBG on its failure

Plagiarized PUBG Ad

A few months ago, Reddit user macsterr created a concept for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox One (on the left). This ad was a player standing in a field growing out of the top of the console. A while after that, Microsoft posted a very similar ad (on the right) on their Twitter. Macsterr called them out about it, and now they’ve taken the ad down. Xbox frontman Major Nelson apologized for the situation and has said he is contacting macsterr. someone got fired, for sure.

Monster Hunter: World on PC

The Monster Hunter Twitter posted a video of producer Ryozo Tsujimoto thanking everyone for their support and feedback, and telling us that after the console release on January 26, free updates will happen that will contain new monsters. He also tells us that the estimates time for the PC port is “Autumn 2018.” Buckle up PC gamers, you got a while still.

PUBG is why LawBreakers Failed

Oh boy, do I have opinions here. LawBreakers released earlier this year, and it was met with an extremely mild reception. Turns out the world didn’t need another hero shooter, especially one that felt overly edgy and otherwise bland. When investors asked the publisher in a Q3 conference call why something they funded did so poorly, financial executive Shiro Uemura was there to shine some light.

“Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our outlook, mainly due to the sales from LawBreakers being below our expectations. LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users. We had very high expectations for its launch; however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.”

… Seriously? PUBG isn’t even the same genre as LawBreakers, not to mention it came out months before that did. Nor does this explain LawBreakers’ poor console sales, which PUBG wasn’t available on at the time. Overwatch is years old, and it has more reasoning to have hindered this game than PUBG would. The problem was that it was a boring and poorly balanced game. Boy got me heated over this bogusness.

Saltiness aside, today was a nice news day. I’m trying out having pictures with each topic, let me know if its a good of bad change. I’m using a phone app called LifeRPG to try and keep myself more organized, so I should be better about consistency. I’m thinking about writing an article about these kinds of apps. I digress. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more of the worthwhile content that is video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Tuesday 1-2-18: EarthBound Cookbook, VAC Drama, Devs Acquire Devs, and Happy New Year

Tuesday is here and we are official in 2018! Here’s the first news of the year.

  • EarthBound Inspired Cook Book
  • Chaos with Steam’s VAC protection
  • Sumo Digital Acquires CCP Newcastle

EarthBound CookBook
With the new year upon us, I was struggling to find newsworthy content. One thing I managed to dig up is Mother’s Cookbook. This is a book of recipes is inspired by the Nintendo RPG, EarthBound. Made by game-loving chef Bryan Connor, the book’s name is based on the game’s Japanese name, Mother 2. The book contains recipes for items like Down-Home Burgers and Mach Pizza. The Kickstarter for the book has already tripled its goal, with 8 days remaining. You can see Connor’s gaming food blog, lvl 1 chef, here.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/motherscookbook/mothers-cookbook-an-earthbound-inspired-cookbook

VAC Confusion
Recently there was a number of reports that any Linux based Team Fortress 2 players with “catbot” in the name would be automatically banned. The forums in which this was reported had a number of other users confirming this to be true. This caused a mild uproar at the lazy efforts of VAC to inhibit the popularized cheat software, catbot. Later on, an official Valve employee would confirm that this was incorrect. He stated that they are NOT automatically banning the name and that he suspects that this was an effort from the cheating community to build discord and distrust for the anti-cheat system. This is why it’s important to get the facts straight before jumping on the news wagon.

Sumo Digital Acquires CCP Newcastle
The developers of a large number of major titles (Hitman, dead island 2, LittleBigPlanet 3) has acquired studio CCP Newcastle. When financial support was lost towards their last project, the VR space fighting game Eve: Valkyrie, CCP announced that they would be closing and consolidating. Now known as Sumo Digital Newcastle, the focus of the studio remains undeclared. Though I can assume that Eve: Valkyrie will lose support.

Thank you, everyone, for having patience in this holiday time. I look forward to regaining some regularity. One 2018 goal is to have 1 longform article posted to the site here once a month (with 3 longforms for my client site, gamerzunite.com the rest of the month) So stay tuned for that. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest and greatest in gaming news. Otherwise, have a great night!
