Tuesday 4-24-18: Quantic Dream Sues and Symmetra is Defense Now

Ahoy me mateys. It be another day in.. I don’t know where I’m going with this. Here’s the news.

  • Quantic Dream Sues French Media
  • Symmetra to Become a Defense Character

Legal Action

Detroit: Become Human developers Quantic Dream has sued the French newspaper Le Monde and the website Mediapart for reports on the studio’s working conditions. A while back, these french media outlets reported racist and sexist remarks made by the studios CEO. Another outlet wrote about the issue, photoshopping the faces of Quantic Dream employees on Nazis and nude women captioned with “today is sodomy” in an article. The studio believes this to be a smear campaign, and legal action is currently taking place against the journalists.

Symmetra Defense Line

Symmetra, The odd-one-out in the support class of Overwatch, is being put under the knife. According to a statement by Timothy Ford, the Lead Software Engineer, She’ll be changed over to a Defense character after the changes. No word on what exactly will be changed to make this a more appropriate decision, but now we at least have a verbal confirmation of their plan.

Not much on the wire today, it seems. That’s alright. Check back tomorrow for more news and stuff. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 4-23-18: Night Trap, Ben Brode, and Valve Owns Campo Stanto

The weekend has ended. I was enjoying it, too. Here’s the weekend wrap up

  • Night Trap on a Nintendo
  • Hearthstone Game Director Resigns
  • Valve Acquires Firewatch Devs

Night Trap, dododo do doo. Watch Out Behind You!

It was 25 years ago when the popular Sega game, Night Trap, released in stores. The event caused a newfound controversy with its definitions of violence and sexuality, even though both accounts of such were pretty mild. At the time, Nintendo stated that the game would never come to a Nintendo game system, due to its depiction of violence against women.

Now the game returns with a special 25th-anniversary edition converted for the Nintendo Switch. Developed by Screaming Villians, the game has no confirmed release date.

Ben Brode Leaves Blizzard

Ben Brode, the game director of Hearthstone, has announced his leave this weekend. While having loved his 15 years working for Blizzard, five of which were on Hearthstone, he has decided to pursue other ventures. You can read the full details at his Battle.net post about it.

Campo Santo is a Valve Brand Now

The developers best known for Firewatch, the first-person mystery adventure game, has been picked up by game distribution giant Valve. The studio will still finish their current project, In The Valley of the Gods, uninterrupted, but it will release as a Valve game. It seems Valve has learned that if they can’t make their own games, they can build a nice pile of devs under their umbrella. More details about the aqcuisition can be found on their blog post.

That’s all for today, folks. Check back tomorrow for the next news posting. Also, I wrote a silly article called 13 Heckin Good Boyes in Gaming, it’s about dogs. Check it out! Otherwise, have a great day!

Friday 4-20-18

It’s been quite the week. Also lol the weed number. More on that later, here’s the news.

  • High School eSports Sans Shooters
  • PUBG Map Selector
  • The Fractured But Whole on Switch

New Kind of School Jocks

The National Federation of State High Schools has a number of responsibilities regarding high school regulations around the country. One of those responsibilities includes regulated school sports. The NFSH has recently announced that they’re working towards including eSports into the system. They recognize that around 70 percent of students identify as gamers, and want to include that. The NFHS partnered with a startup called PlayVS to build the digital infrastructure needed to support high school esports. Soon, students will be able to compete in official state championship competitions and be recognized by their state athletic associations. Next up, scholarships.

PUBG Map Selector

Not long ago, PUBG Corp announced that yet another new, tropical map is in the works. This one would allegedly have large caverns to explore and compete in. Being the third map option for the popular battle royale game, the developers have also stated that a map selection menu will be implemented. You will be able to toggle which maps you want to be randomly placed into while avoiding the ones you don’t want. Unfortunately, the Xbox One version of the game won’t get the second map, Miramar, until May.

Switched But Whole

This is news that probably wouldn’t merit a full post, but I’m wanting to report three things a day. So this is filler. South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the sequel RPG to the popular satirical cartoon, will its way onto the Nintendo Switch eShop. For a full $59.99, you will be able to download the standard edition (meaning no DLC). It releases on the eShop on April 24.

We have a new episode of The Cozy Co-op out today! It’s about To the Moon, check it out. That’s it for this week, check back Monday for a nice weekend wrap up post. Otherwise, have a great weekend!

Thursday 4-19-18: Battlefield Royale, Fornite Comet, and GO Spoofer Bans

Doing news in the morning is really working well for me. It’s much easier to do regularly this way. Here’s the news.

  • Battlefield V Battle Royale
  • Fortnite Comet Rituals
  • Pokemon Go Spoofers

Battlefield Royale

According to an anonymous source at VentureBeat, developer DICE is currently working on creating a battle royale game mode (akin to Fortnite and PUBG) for their most recent Battlefield game. EA has declined for comment about it, so take it with a grain of salt. I wouldn’t put it past EA, though.

Fornite Final Coming

Fortnite players have been donning their tin foil hats recently when a strange looking comet has been gradually growing over a central area known as Tilted Towers. At first, it was just a weird site, but players are reporting more as of late. Some have seen an abundance of shooting stars in the area, others have noticed that telescopes have appeared on the game map at Tilted Towers. Some players have noted that when in the area, their controllers vibrate to say “SOSD5418” in Morse code. Since Tilted Towers is set in location D5, people believe this means the comet will crash on the spot on 4-18, yesterday. I think it might also mean 5-4-18, or May 4, 2018, which would be in about two weeks. Since the current Fortnite season is space themed, it’s possible that the comet will act as a dramatic closing. We will see. Stay tuned.

Pokemon Go Spoofers

According to the Pokemon Go community, developers Niantic have banned a large number of location spoofers for iOS devices. Spoofing communities have been in an uproar, reporting the game as 1 star, as well as the game HQ on Google Maps. As someone who’s been strong-armed out of gyms immediately by spoofers on many occasions, I’m happy to see progress being made to stop these people.

The podcast is going great! New episode tomorrow morning, this time about To the Moon. More information on that here. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 4-18-18: Warframe Update, Minecraft Malware, and DeadMau5’s Video Game

Today’s news is an interesting batch. Too bad I’m so sleepy this morning. Here’s the news.

  • Warframe: Beasts of the Sanctuary Update
  • Minecraft Skin Malware
  • DeadMau5’s Video Game

Beasts of the Sanctuary

Warframe is in-line for their next major update. With it, we see the35th Warframe, Khora. We also can expect a new game mode called Sanctuary Onslaught. Khora has the unique ability to cycle between what type of damage you deal, impact, puncture, and slash. For more details, and some oddly creative writing, check out the PlayStation blog post about it.

Minecraft Malware

Minecraft is still a large scale game. Millions of users still play regularly. Unfortunately, nearly 50,000 of these users have been infected with “malware designed to reformat hard-drives and delete backup data and system programs,” according to data from anti-virus providers Avast. Hackers have hidden malicious scripts inside of Minecraft skins uploaded to the official Minecraft servers. Mojang is working on a fix for the vulnerability.

DeadMau5 Game

Joel Zimmerman, best known by his EDM musician alias DeadMau5, recently revealed a “Mad early ‘alpha alpha’” of a video game he is developing. The longtime Twitch streamer used the platform to show off some footage of the unfinished gameplay environment. The beat dropper says it will still be a fairly long time before its anything close to presentable. That’s fine by me. It’s nice to show off a passion project sometimes, ya know?

Fun news day. Lot’s of interesting things. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest in video games. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 4-17-18: Castlevania iOS and He-Man in Injustice

So I definitely said yesterday was Thursday. Totally was a Monday, My bad. Here’s the news.

  • Castlevania for iOS
  • He-man in Injustice

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls

Konami still makes games, apparently. The publisher has recently announced a new mobile game, called Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. The game is a multiplayer-focused iOS title, where players can work cooperatively to take down bosses, or competitively in a 4v4 mode. No word on when it’ll release, but Japan has a closed beta coming soon.

He-Man

Some of you may know that Injustice, the DC superhero fighting game, is based on a comic book series of a similar story. In recent news, classic character He-Man will be joining the Injustice universe. Injustice vs. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is a new comic releasing July 18. Perhaps this means He-Man will join the video game roster, as well.

Not much news today, but that’s alright. There’s always the future. Check back tomorrow for more news. Otherwise, have a great day!

Monday 4-16-18: Agony Censorship, New Gen Pokemon, and Playtonic Projects.

Thursday Morning, and man does it feel like a Monday. Gross. Here’s the news.

  • Agony for PC can be Uncensored
  • New Pokemon Generation in Official Magazine
  • Yooka-Laylee Devs’ New Project

True Agony

You may not have heard about Agony. It’s a hellish horror game coming to consoles and PC. Originally the game was to launch on March 30, but it was delayed after the developers had a hard time coming to an agreement on the age rating. In its original state, it would be rated Adult Only, which isn’t allowed on consoles. The devs didn’t want to, but they removed certain content to get the game down to a Mature rating. But to keep to their original vision, they’re going to offer a downloadable patch for PC versions of the game that restores it to its uncensored glory. They are also offering their Kickstarter backers the chance to switch their game of choice to the PC version for this reason. It looks horrifying, I might get it to review.

New Pokemon Gen, Maybe

Twitter user raqueruu noticed that the Spanish Nintendo Magazine talks about the upcoming Pokemon game for Nintendo Switch. The snippet claims that it will be the eighth generation Pokemon, and will be released in 2018. This would be a new land, new Pokemon, the whole shebang. Now be careful, the Spanish version of the magazine has been wrong about the franchise in the past, so this might also be false. Make what you will of this.

Playtonic Isn’t Done

Yooka-Laylee was the highly-anticipated spiritual successor to the Banjo Kazooie series. Unfortunately, it wasn’t met with the same level of success. It received a “Fair” score of 72/100 on OpenCritic. The developers have spoken up after the first birthday of the game, saying that they’re working on more content for Yooka-Laylee, as well as “other stuff.” Perhaps this means a new game? Time will tell.

Thanks for reading everyone! I’m also excited to announce the launch of my new podcast, The Cozy Co-op. It’s a show where a games journalist (me) join a creative writer to talk about video games. We already have five episodes available, and more information can be found on its official webpage. Tune in tomorrow for more video game news. Otherwise, have a great day!

Friday 4-13-18: Call of Juarez, Spy Party, and Star Wars Ewoks

News in the morning?? What?! I’ll explain that below, for now: the news.

  • Ubisoft Responds to Call of Juarez Delisting
  • Spy Party Launch
  • Play as Ewoks in Star Wars

Delisting of Juarez

A while back, I was told about Call of Juarez: Gunslinger disappearing from Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation marketplaces. I emailed the PR director at Ubisoft for more information, and they’ve finally gotten back to me. The game’s licensing has ended and it has been given back to Techland. Temporary delistings due to license shifting are common, so we can expect it to come back online shortly enough. I’ve contacted Techland for more information.

Spy Party

What is Spy Party? It’s an asynchronous multiplayer game where one player is a spy at a ritzy party, trying to perform a particular list of actions, while the other is a sniper wanting to identify the spy and kill them. I watched a Twitch stream of the game, and it looks like a good time with a friend. Well, the game has now formally launched, after eight years in development. Congrats to developers Chris Hecker and John Cimino. More information can be found on their website.

Ewok Hunt

Setting aside the absolute mess that was the Star Wars Battlefront 2 launch, the game is still being worked on and updated. The most recent update introduces Ewok Hunt, a new game mode that has players fighting each other as either Imperial Stormtroopers or as Ewoks on the forest moon of Endor. It’s a traditional invading/defending mode and will be available on April 18.

So why the morning. I’ve been experimenting with my schedule lately, and I’m trying to find what works better. I still have a day job at a warehouse, and more times than not, I’m left exhausted by it. This makes it hard to complete my evening responsibilities. I initially did news in the evening so that I can report on the happenings of that day, but I would often forget to do the news, due to fatigue. Today, and perhaps next week, I’m going to try posting the daily news post in the late mornings (10am~11am). We’ll see how it goes, it may become the new norm.

Stay tuned! I have a special announcement to make on Monday, it’s a big project, and I look forward to its launch.

Check back Monday for a weekend wrap up. Otherwise, have a great day!

Monday 4-9-18: Rick and Morty Comics, Sexy LoL Girl, and the Paul Brothers.

Another week, another wonk. What is a wonk? Where can I find a wonk of my own? I don’t know. What I do know is the news. Here is that news.

  • Rick and Morty Comic Book
  • League of Legends Sexy Girl Problem
  • Paul Brothers’ Twitch Drama

Dungeon Riiiick

This isn’t actually video game related, but its very video game adjacent. IDW Publishing announced that a Rick and Morty comic book, based in a Dungeons and Dragons themed world, is due for release this August. One of the co-writers is quoted as saying the idea was “some serious you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut butter $#!& right there.” Make of that what you will.

Riot Games’ Rowdy Girl

The creator of League of Legends recently released a new hero, Kai’Sa. She is covered in a parasitic creature thing that helps her fight, not entirely unlike Bayonetta. Fans were off-put by the deep V-neck style of the alien bodysuit, claiming its overly sexual, and contradicting of the developer’s past statements to not sexualize their characters. Riot responded saying that, while they kinda knew it was a touch scandalous, they had to show off some skin in order for people to be able to see that she was a human in a monster suit, and not simply a monster herself. Of all of the excuses to have a scantily clad woman, this might be the most legitimate one I’ve heard yet. They’re small character models, after all.

The Paul Brothers

Frankly, I don’t much like talking about these guys. I don’t like them. Regardless, I shall cast aside my personal bias in order to bring you the news. This is a two-part news bit, the first is in regards to Jake Paul and Summit1G. Summit is one of the biggest Twitch streamers right now. Earlier this week, he livestreamed a game of Fortnite with controversial YouTuber Jake Paul. Unsurprisingly, many of the members of his community were unhappy with the association and expressed it so. Summit responded defensively, claiming that if they were genuinely upset about him playing with Jake, they weren’t true summit fans. This led to an even stronger uproar, to the point that his next livestream was titled “do not donate or sub. I also will not be reading chat. it’s gonna be awkward.” What did you think was going to happen, man?

The other bit was Sunday, when the other brother, Logan Paul, ran his first Twitch livestream, also playing Fortnite. Almost immediately, his chat was filled with dicks. ASCII art style penises were being spammed by many members of the chat. It became so bad that after a point, his producer could be heard on stream say “There are so many dicks . . . We got spammed so fast.” Logan has since stated that he wants to promote a positive and friendly environment and that once he reaches affiliate status, he will enable subscriber-only chat mode. What interested me was that, given his fame, he likely could have contacted Twitch and requested immediate partner status. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t accepted.

Quite an interesting news week, if I say so myself. I hope you enjoyed our first Guest Article! It was a recounting of The Legend of Zelda Symphony that took place last year in Columbus, Ohio, by guest writer Sara H. Check back tomorrow for another fun news update. Otherwise, have a great night!

Friday 4-6-18: Spyro, Deckard Cain, and YouTube

Oh boy has it been a rough week. Day job has kept me late almost every day. Here’s the news.

  • Spyro Reignited Trilogy
  • Deckard Cain in Heroes of the Storm
  • Shooting at YouTube Headquarters

Spyro is Back

Yesterday, Activision announced that a trilogy remaster of the first three Spyro games, called the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, is due to release on September 21 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Much like with the Crash remake, this will have improved graphics, controls, music, the whole shebang. Funny enough, the morning before the announcement, I had reported on a leaked listing of this game appearing on the Amazon Mexico shopping page.

Deckard Cain

The old man from the Diablo games is joining the popular Blizzard MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. He’s a melee support hero that uses stories and books to slow his enemies, and even putting them to sleep. He also can drop potions to heal his allies. More details can be found on his video spotlight.

YouTube Shooting

It is with a serious tone that I report a recent shooting that took place at the YouTube Headquarters in San Bruno, California, earlier this week. The shooter injured three, before taking their own life. They shall remain unnamed, but the currently believed motivation was due to the censorship and recent demonetization of their YouTube channel. The three injured individuals are alive and recovering. My sympathies go out to those affected by this situation.

That’s all this week, I’ve got a new editorial ready I plan to post tomorrow. So stay tuned. Otherwise, have a great night!

Tuesday 4-3-18: Fortnite Mobile and Chrono Trigger Fixes

How about them video games? Here’s the news.

  • Fortnite for iOS
  • Chrono Trigger Steam Fix

Fortnite Mobile

I’m sure you’ve heard about how the popular Battle Royale games have entered the mobile world. Fortnite’s iOS game has now officially launched. Before this, you could only play if invited by a friend, or with a special link. No word on the game coming to Android, only that it will happen at some point.

Chrono Trigger

Last month, I reported on a PC port of the popular SNES game silently releasing on Steam. Later on, I reported on how people hated it for being a crappy port of the mobile port. Publisher Square Enix has now made a statement, saying that they plan to resolve all of these issues, starting with reverting the game back to their original graphics. Stay tuned as this story develops.

Thanks for reading. Seeing that daily views tracker keeping consistent is rather reassuring. Check back tomorrow for more news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 4-2-18: Sadokist Suspended and Delisted Items

I hope everyone had a fun Easter/April Fools’ Day. Here’s the weekend news.

  • Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is Gone
  • Sadokist Suspended for Suggesting Suicide
  • Steam Deem the Steam Machine Obscene

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Remember the western shooter RPG? While the first few games didn’t do fantastically, their fourth game is commonly considered the best one. For some odd reason, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger has been delisted from Steam, Xbox Live, and the PlayStation Network. Owners of the game can still access their copies, and the demo listing is still live, but the game itself is gone. I emailed Ubisoft, the publisher, asking for a statement. Instead of getting a standard PR answer, they said they will look into it and to stay tuned. So … Time will tell.

Sadokist Suspended

Matthew Trivett, the popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive commentator with the handle “Sadokist,” has been suspended from Twitch after using racist language during a livestream, and for telling a community member to commit suicide. He said the N word, with the hard R, when taunting a friend in a recent livestream. Later on, he would also tell a community member that killing themselves would be better for everyone. It’s unclear how this will affect his commentating career, moving forward. It can’t be looking too good, though.

Steam Machine

Steam Machines were the game distribution service’s attempt at selling hardware consoles. It was intended as all the power and selection of a PC, with the ease of a console. Unfortunately, no one wanted them. Their OS was problematic, it was limited to Linux games. Now the Steam listing for Steam Machine hardware has been removed. You can still access the pages for specific machines, and purchase them accordingly, but the hardware tab only lists the Controller, Steam Link, and the HTC Vive. Hide your shame, Steam.

I hope you all enjoyed the April Fools’ Post about Game Grumps, been waiting nearly a year to post that one. Check back tomorrow for more news. Otherwise, have a great night!
