Tuesday 7-10-18: Titanfall Online Canceled, Ingress Animated Movie, and More Fortnite in Real-Life

Another day full of news and things! Hello all, here’s the news.

  • Titanfall Online Cancelled in South Korea
  • Niantic’s Ingress Netflix Movie
  • More Fortnite in Real Life

Titanfall Offline

According to Korean news site GameFocus, the online Titanfall game developed for Asian markets has been canceled. After being in development for three years, it was decided that time and effort would be better spent on different things. Not much else to say about this one.

Ingress Movie

Niantic, best known for Pokemon Go, is getting a movie. Before Pokemon Go, they had Ingress, a similar AR game requiring players to travel to real-life locations to gain control of “portals.” Well, that game is getting an animated movie on Netflix. Created by Crafter and Fuki TV, it’ll arrive on the video streaming service this autumn. In Ingress, two factions fight over portals leaking exotic matter into the world. The player can choose which team to join and they can work together to maintain control of their local area.

More Fortnite

Yesterday we reported on the strange appearance of Durr Burger in California. Now llamas are appearing in various EU locations like London, Barcelona, and Warsaw. Season 5 of Fortnite starts on Thursday, so we’re reaching the apex of this strange story.

That’s all for today, tune in tomorrow for more. Otherwise, have a great day!

Monday 7-9-18: Fortnite Burger Appears in California Desert, Warframe’s Fortunate Update, and Nathan Drake “Doesn’t Ever Take Bullet Damage”

Man, oh man. This was a nice weekend. A lot of treating myself, relaxing, and still keeping productive. Felt good. Here’s the news.

  • A Fortnite Burger Appears in California Desert
  • Warframe’s Upcoming Fortuna Expansion
  • How Nathan Drake “Doesn’t Ever Take Bullet Damage”

Durr Burger is Back

If you’re into Fortnite, you probably know about the dimensional rifts that have been popping up. As more and more would appear, they’ve been both consuming nearby landmarks and spawning new ones in random locations. This has varied from wooden anchors to carriages, to motel signs. Previously, the large mascot structure for Durr Burger, a fast food location in-game, was consumed by a rift. It has since been discovered in the real world, specifically a desert in California.

It gets weirder. Now that people know, others have been flocking to see. Now there’s a Fortnite-esque police car in the area and a man under the title of Agent #3678. He gives you a card with his title and a phone number (712-380-4091). If you call the number, you hear a dimensional rift portal opening up. Should you press the asterisks key, it’ll ask for an extension.

Well done Epic Games for crafting this weird mystery, attached below are social media postings of all of this.

Warframe’s Fortuna Update

Are you ready for a new faction? Well, get ready, because Solaris United are making their way to Venus. This update will introduce the planet into a new world-building lore, where a clan of cyborgs are sent to work out their days in debt-internment camps. All we have to go off of is a reveal trailer for now.

Also get ready for a new expansion. Titled “Codename: Railjack,” the game intends to merge surface combat of Fortuna with air combat. Players will pilot ships, shoot their turrets, etc.

Drake Doesn’t Get Shot

This one is short but sweet. According to Jonathan Cooper, animator as Naughty Dog, Nathan Drake doesn’t take bullet damage. Instead, the player sees the redness on the UI to represent when the Uncharted series protagonist’s luck is about to run out. They aren’t direct hits that cause the damage, but near misses.

It’s just an excuse to shrug off gameplay conflicting with lore, but I like it. This is a more accepting approach than the Resident Evil or Hitman games, for example. These games simply state that gameplay itself is not canon.

Thanks for sifting through this one, everyone. Good news: I got a Nintendo Switch! Super late to the bandwagon, but I’m loving it. Tune in tomorrow for more video game news. Otherwise, have a great day!

Friday 7-6-18: Skullgirls on Nintendo Switch and Talim Confirmed for Soul Calibur 6

Wow, I can’t believe it’s not Friday! Or.. that it isn’t not Friday? I don’t know, here’s the news.

  • Skullgirls is Coming to Nintendo Switch
  • Talim Confirmed for Soul Calibur 6

Switch Girls

Developer Lab Zero Games announced that Skullgirls will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future at this year’s Anime Expo. This is then confirmed on Twitter by Atrox, the studio’s artist. No further details at this time.

Talim Confirmed

Ever so slowly, fighters are being confirmed for the upcoming Soul Calibur game. A number of them are new, such as Geralt from the Witcher. This one is a classic: Talim, the wind priestess. She first appeared in Soul Calibur 2, and has been in 3, 4, and Broken Destiny, but not 5. So I’m happy to see her in 6. Watch the reveal trailer below.

Also, dat Ivy butt.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading. Tune in Monday for another news bit about video games. Otherwise, have a great weekend!

Thursday 7-5-18: Nintendo has More for 2018, We Happy Few Rated in the AU, and France Weighs in on Loot Boxes

Hello everyone! Sorry for not saying that there won’t be news yesterday, holiday and all. Here’s some news for today, since today isn’t a holiday.

  • Nintendo has More for 2018
  • We Happy Few Rated in Australia Again
  • France Decides if Loot Boxes are Gambling

Nintendo’s Plans for the Year

Nintendo has a pretty killer lineup for 2018, but it’s not over yet. A stakeholder meeting translated by DualShockers includes former president Tatsumi Kimishima reassuring investors that the company still has unannounced products for 2018. While I don’t know what they have planned, I’m certainly interested in finding out.

We Happy Few

Last month, the Australian Classification Review Board refused classification for We Happy Few, due to its Joy system. It was considered a form of rewarding the player for drug usage. Last week, developer Compulsion Games issued a repeal, and now we have a follow-up. The game will not be refused classification anyone, and will instead receive an R18+ rating. The reason for the change has not been released at this time.

France’s Decision

When the whole Star Wars Battlefront II thing happened, a number of countries started looking into whether or not loot boxes are considered gambling. While we’ve heard from places like Belgium, only now are we hearing what France thinks. According to the ARJEL, Frances gambling authority, loot boxes are NOT gambling, due to their lack of real-life rewards, and the fact that you always get SOMETHING. They do, however, acknowledge that loot boxes are dangerous. They use many of the same addictive traits that gambling does, and the ARJEL is encouraging other nations to take action toward regulating or even criminalizing the system.

Tuesday 7-3-18: LA Noire VR DRM Block, Super Mario Run’s $60 Mil, and More Info on Fallout 76

Groggy morning it seems, but one ripe with news, at least. Here is that news.

  • LA Noire VR Players Blocked by DRM Issue
  • Super Mario Run Grossed $60 Million
  • Todd Howard Talks About Fallout 76 More

DRM Noire

There have been reports that LA Noire VR edition on Steam has been entirely unplayable recently for those who bought it. Users are prompted to put in their product key for the game, despite it being already activated. Should they put their product key in again, it’ll tell them that the key is already in use (by you, of course). This loop has left players unable to play at all for several days now. Developer Rockstar Games is no stranger to bad DRM practices, but it’s unfortunate that this is happening all the same.

Super Mario Run to the Bank

Remember Nintendo’s first actual mobile game? Released in September 2016, Super Mario Run wasn’t exactly the success people were hoping for. That hasn’t stopped the game from making money, however. Recent reports indicate a total gross of $60 million. If you think that’s large, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp earned $20 million in its first two months, and Fire Emblem: Heroes earned over $294 million in its first year. While mobile games may seem like a niche market for casuals and all that elitist garbo, the reality is that it can be an extremely profitable venture, if you have the IPs and the quality of games Nintendo is known for.

Fallout 76 More Information

There has been yet another interview with game producer Todd Howard, and with it, we get a touch more information about Fallout 76. There were quite a few things he touched on, so I’ll just skim through them.

It’s called 76 because he liked the identity it gave. The destruction of bases isn’t so that you can raid and wreck, but so you can break out if someone tried to trap you. That’s why repairs are easy. You cannot kill a player under level 5, to help prevent harassment I guess. There will be fast travel. There will not be mounts. Howard dodged a question asking if other human players can give you missions.

That’s all for today. Thank you, everyone, for reading. Tune in tomorrow for more news. I’ve starting coding up a software bot to play Five Nights at Freddy’s for me. You might hear more about that, should it prove successful. Otherwise, have a great day!

Monday 7-2-18: Fortnite’s Dimensional Rift, Nintendo Trademarks Gamecube, and SGDQ Results

Monday is back! I’d say I missed you Monday, but I’d be lying. Also it’s July now. Here’s the news.

  • Fortnite’s Dimensional Rift
  • Nintendo Trademarks Old Stuff
  • SGDQ Raised Over $2 Million

Fortnite is Broken, Dimensionally Speaking

The rocket launch was an overall success. Tons of people got together to peacefully watch as a rocket blasted off the map and into the sky. Aside from a booster crashing down, another thing has changed on the Fortnite world now, and it’s far stranger. A dimensional rift has opened up in front of the Lonely Lodges, and it’s getting bigger. While it started out as a simple crack in space-time, it has now grown, having “eaten” the sign for the lodge. Even worse, another crack has appeared in the area. What does this mean? I don’t know. But we now have our next Fortnite conspiracy to look forward to.

Nintendo Trademarks

First discovered by japanesenintendo.com, Nintendo has filed for a number of new trademarks, most notably is the video game usage of the Gamecube. It’s not clear what this means exactly, They might simply be protecting their property. It might also indicate that they are looking to start publishing Gamecube games on the Nintendo eShop for the Switch. Virtual Console Gamecube games have been a long requested feature by fans, and the Switch is likely powerful enough to emulate it. Time will tell.

SGDQ Results

Summer Games Done Quick has concluded, and the numbers are in. The week-long live stream charity event has raised $2,122,529.20 for Doctors Without Borders. This beats out last year’s score of $1.7m. I THINK this is also a new record, though I’ll have to double check that. Either way, I’m glad to see such wholesomeness come out of this. I love the GDQ events and wish them a prosperous future.

That’s all for today! Tune in tomorrow for more news. I also plan to get a new guest review up soon, so sit tight. Otherwise, have a great day!

Friday 6-29-18: Solid Snake in Bomberman, Overwatch’s Hamster Hero, Shenmue 3 is 100GB

Busy week, that’s for sure. Here’s the news.

  • Metal Gear Solid in Bomberman R
  • Overwatch has a Hamster Character
  • Shenmue 3 Requires 100GB

SolidSnakerMan

In a recent update to Super Bomberman R, four new characters have joined the explosive fray. Solid Snake, Naked Snake and Raiden are now playable characters in the game. They even come with a new stage based on Mother Base. The fourth character is actually a bombermanification of Pro wrestler Xavier Woods. The wrestler even voices the character. The update is now live, but some it may not have appeared on the Nintendo Switch yet.

Hammond the Overwatch Hamster

Blizzard-Activision announced their latest character addition to the Overwatch roster, and it’s a hamster. Hammond rolls around in a giant mechanical ball of destruction, which is why his alias is called Wrecking Ball. The best part, in my opinion, is that he has an origin story. Hammond is a hyper-intelligent hamster developed in the same lab that Winston was. Hammond used his smarts to escape the lab via a wrecking ball style shuttle. Upon crashing by a place called Junktown, he engineered his own battle mech and became a local champion.

Shenmue 3 is Large

A recent update to the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has revealed what the PC specs for the game will be. While they’re fairly understandable, folks have noticed a surprisingly large space requirement of 100 GB. I get that larger game sizes are part of the evolution of media, but oof, that’s big.

That’s all for today. I look forward to taking it easy this weekend. Tune in Monday for the next news post. Check out our latest podcast episode while you wait, it’s about Hammerwatch. Otherwise, have a great weekend.

Thursday 6-28-18: Snapchat’s Gaming Platform and Forza’s “Stream-to-Win” Feature

Today is a weird day of overlapping formats. Here’s the news.

  • Snapchat to Launch Gaming Platform
  • Forza Horizon 4 Pushes Mixer Live streaming

Snapchat Gaming

According to a report by TheInformation, Snapchat is looking to open up their own gaming platform. This comes as a surprise since the dwindling interest in facebook messenger’s gaming system has all but died at this point. The platform will allow Snapchat users to download and play third-party games from within the app. This project has been in development for the better part of a year so far and they’re looking to release in the fall. I’ve already been growing increasingly bothered by all the bloating and various junk slowing the app down to a crawl, maybe its time I drop the medium as a whole.

Forza Pushes Mixer

The upcoming racing game, boasting seasonal play and an open world environment, will be rewarding players for live streaming the game. Ars Technica had an interview with Playground Games’ art director Benjamin Penrose, who describes the game’s “stream-to-earn” system. The site reports that players will be able to earn in-game currency by “streaming your gameplay on Mixer.” Details such as the rate of currency earnings when and when not streaming remain unknown. we saw that “I’m on Mixer” was a preset emote in the game at E3, so they’re clearly investing a fair bit in this relationship. To be honest, I’m SUPER not a fan of this idea. Live streaming isn’t an easy task, and I’ll have to see the platform flooded with minimal effort broadcasts enabled purely to get more gold.

If you don’t know, Mixer is Microsoft’s live streaming service, comparable to Twitch and YouTube Gaming.

That’s all for today. Weird platform crossing. Tune in tomorrow for the last news post of the work week, as well as our latest podcast episode! I’ve seen an increase in traffic lately, and I think some of it is from the podcast listeners. If so, Hello! Anyways, have a great day!

Wednesday 6-27-18: Smash Bros Ultimate Stages and a Binding of Issac Card Game

I finally got some cleaning done around the house. But it’s left me late to do work. Here’s the news.

  • Smash Bros Ultimate won’t Have All Stages
  • The Binding of Issac Card Game

Smash Bros Stages

According to a translated interview with Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen, Super Smash Bros Ultimate will not have all of the previous games’ stages. When they announced that the game will have every single playable character in the series in this single iteration, speculation started that the same would be true for stages. They did clarify that “a whole lot of them” will be there, however.

The Binding of Card Games

There’s a new game on the Edward McMullen roster of game, The Binding of Issac: Four Souls. This is a multiplayer card game based in the BoI universe. It’s described as many players working together to gather loot and fight bosses. I’m not much a fan of the series, so I didn’t look THAT hard into this, to be honest. For more information, check out the game’s Kickstarter page, which has raised $337,000+ since it opened on Wednesday.

That’s all for today, thanks for tuning in. Good news, I’m back on the Alexa ranks! Alas, it’s at a humble 16 million. But hey, at least I have an Alexa rank again. Tune in tomorrow for more news. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 6-19-18: Pokemon Go Trade Support, Nintendo TV Show, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 Beta

I’m not dead! I promise! Here’s today’s news.

  • Pokemon Go Trading
  • Nintendo TV Show
  • Beyond Good and Evil 2 Playable Beta?

Pokemon Go Trading

pokemon go trading
In a recent announcement by developer Niantic, the popular mobile game will FINALLY be getting player-to-player trading. It’s not that simple, however. First, you have to share your friend code with another person, and register each other as friends. After this, you only need to be level 10 to be allowed to trade. Performing these trades requires a very large amount of stardust, I’m talking 1,000,000 dust to trade in a worst-case scenario. If you want to make it cost less, you can improve your friendship level with the person. You do this by participating in raids with them, or by sending them gift items (now findable at pokestops). You have to be a certain friend level to trade legendaries, as well. More details can be found in the Niantic post about it.

Nintendo TV Show

nintendo disney tv show
Nintendo has teamed up with Disney to produce a competitive video game show. Titled the Nintendo Switch Family Showdown, the show pits four families against each other in a series of challenges on the Nintendo Switch console. This ranges from finding coins in Super Mario Odyssey to direct matches in Mario Tennis Aces. No word on when the show will launch, but there better be a Mario Party episode.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Beta Date?

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Beta
The game made waves at last year’s E3, and again at this years with a new cinematic trailer. While the release date of the game remains uncertain, game director Michel Ancel stated that “we aim for a playable beta for the end of next year” on Instagram. So here’s hoping to that.

That’s all for today! Tune in tomorrow for more news and such. Starting Wednesday, I’ll be posting a series of guest reviews from some other journalists I know, Stay tuned for that, some of them are pretty good. Just remember that, while they are on my site, they do not reflect my own personal thoughts on these games, simply the guest writer’s.

EA’s E3 2018 Press Event Summery

Today marks the beginning of E3, starting with EA’s press event. Let’s keep it simple, here’s everything they announced.

Battlefield 5

Some new gameplay and cinematic footage was revealed for Battlefield 5. Outside of that, nothing “new” was revealed. They have a name for the campaign, which seems to focus on a female protagonist, but I couldn’t write the name down in time. I apologize. Nothing to report otherwise.

Origin Access Premier

EA has announced a new, upcoming subscription service known as Origin Access Premier. Much like Xbox Game Pass, this is a monthly service that allows subscribers to access a library of games. This is like the Netflix of games, so to speak. Expect this service to launch later this year.

Sports Games 19

After that, they revealed FIFA 19, Madden NFL 19, and NBA Live 19. While I’m sure they’re interesting enough, I can be bothered to report on them, other than their announcement. My apologies to sports game fans.

Star Wars Battlefront II Update

They’ve not thrown the towel in on Star Wars Battlefront II just yet. After remarking on the past updates, such as the Solo story and Ewok Hunt, the developers (or it might have been a rep) announced that they will now be moving toward a commonly asked for direction: The Clone Wars. They confirmed the inclusion of characters such as General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Count Dooku, and Anakin Skywalker. They also announced an upcoming Squad Mode, and a dogfighting mode more focused on Hero ships. More information on those as they become available.

Unravel Two

Remember Unravel, the cute little platformer featuring a yarn-creature named Yarny. They’ve secretly been hard at work developing a new sequel. Unravel Two will feature a new co-op mechanic, where a red guy and a blue guy work together to solve more platforming puzzles. It can be played solo, as well. Most surprising of all, the game is available for purchase and play right now on Origin, PS4, and Xbox One for $19.99.

Sea of Solitude

EA is showing support for another indie dev team by publishing Sea of Solitude. When not watching a dev getting choked up over presenting at E3, she revealed some gameplay of the game while talking about the meaning behind it. Sea of Solitude is an artistic creation, embodying the feeling of loneliness and solitude, I guess. It looks cool enough, but that’s all we know now. More information on this as it develops.

Command and Conquer: Rivals

After five years of nothing, we finally get a new Command and Conquer game. Unfortunately, it’s a mobile game. That’s right. Command and Conquer: Rivals is a super simplified RTS for mobile devices. So far, the reception has been awful, with a 90% thumbs down on the official youtube trailer. I don’t blame them. The gameplay looks overly simplified for an RTS game. more information on this can be found via the news post I wrote elsewhere.

Anthem

Whoo boy, this was a bigger one. There was a new cinematic trailer, talks with the devs, who detailed the lore, gameplay, and other things, and ending with a gameplay video, and an official release date. To summarize. The world is dangerous due to a something known as the Anthem of Creation, the bad guys want to weaponize this Anthem, and you are a freelancer skilled in the special suits that you need to wear to brave the natural world. There are four classes you can play and swap between, and they are cosmetically customizable. There WILL be microtransactions, but nothing gameplay-altering, and no loot boxes. The game officially releases on February 22 of 2019. More details can be found on the news post I wrote elsewhere. It covers everything with greater depth than here.

That’s all for this one. I’ll see everyone tomorrow for Microsoft, Bethesda, and Devolver Digital.

Friday 6-8-18: Hitman 2 Announced, Just Cause 4 Leaked, Crackdown 3 Delayed

Its the calm before the storm, E3 is next week, and the press conferences start this weekend. I will not ask for whom the bell tolls. Here’s the new.

  • Hitman 2 Confirmed
  • Just Cause 4 Leaked
  • Crackdown 3 Delayed

Hitman 2

IO Interactive and WB Games flubbed themselves recently when they attempted to tease a new Hitman game. They only encouraged data scavengers to find out the secret ahead of time.

On Monday, WB games posted on twitter saying to expect an announcement on Thursday. At the same time, Hitman developers IO Interactive made a similar post. People put two and two together, and people guessed a new Hitman game. After combing through the WB servers, someone found an image for HITMAN 2. The image was quickly taken down after, but you cant delete information off the internet. Barbara Streisand and all. Thursday has come and gone, and sure enough, it was Hitman 2. More information on this can be found on the Hitman website.

Just Cause 4

If you’re a prevalent Steam user. You may have noticed that at some point last night, Just Cause 4 appeared in the News popup, claiming to preorder now. The game itself isn’t on Steam, so clicking it leads to nothing, and searches turn up blank as well.

We first saw Just Cause 4 in the Walmart Leak from a bit ago. While this isn’t a formal confirmation, it’s a pretty damning leak.

Crackdown 3 Delayed

Originally intended for a Spring 2018 launch, the super-police RPG shooter has been pushed back again, this time into 2019. Microsoft stated that they want to ensure the best experience for their players as possible, and the delay, while unfortunate, is a result of this desire.

That’s it for today! Special news for this weekend. At the end of each day, I’ll be doing a wrap-up news post about the many E3 press conferences. This will happen Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Consider these normal news posts in terms of format, but far fatter, due to the nature of E3. Otherwise, have a great weekend everyone!
