Let’s be real, video game culture has had a bit of a problem with women. There’s an endless ocean of instances where women were harassed online just for being a girl. This is especially true with eSports. But according to recent research, female viewership is increasing.

It’s been quite the week. Also lol the weed number. More on that later, here’s the news.

- The Fractured But Whole on Switch
New Kind of School Jocks
The National Federation of State High Schools has a number of responsibilities regarding high school regulations around the country. One of those responsibilities includes regulated school sports. The NFSH has recently announced that they’re working towards including eSports into the system. They recognize that around 70 percent of students identify as gamers, and want to include that. The NFHS partnered with a startup called PlayVS to build the digital infrastructure needed to support high school esports. Soon, students will be able to compete in official state championship competitions and be recognized by their state athletic associations. Next up, scholarships.
PUBG Map Selector
Not long ago, PUBG Corp announced that yet another new, tropical map is in the works. This one would allegedly have large caverns to explore and compete in. Being the third map option for the popular battle royale game, the developers have also stated that a map selection menu will be implemented. You will be able to toggle which maps you want to be randomly placed into while avoiding the ones you don’t want. Unfortunately, the Xbox One version of the game won’t get the second map, Miramar, until May.
Switched But Whole
This is news that probably wouldn’t merit a full post, but I’m wanting to report three things a day. So this is filler. South Park: The Fractured But Whole, the sequel RPG to the popular satirical cartoon, will its way onto the Nintendo Switch eShop. For a full $59.99, you will be able to download the standard edition (meaning no DLC). It releases on the eShop on April 24.
We have a new episode of The Cozy Co-op out today! It’s about To the Moon, check it out. That’s it for this week, check back Monday for a nice weekend wrap up post. Otherwise, have a great weekend!
Monday is back. I apologize for last week, it was a heavy workload to handle. Here’s the news
- Dota Plus
- xQc Dropped
- Shaq Fu is Expensive
- Algo Bot Review
- Fossil Hunters Review
Dota Plus
It’s not a new game mode for Valve’s popular MOBA. It’s a premium subscription mode. Now for $3.99 a month, you gain access to special perks and bonuses. The most interesting one is a real-time virtual assistant to suggest the current best options when playing. It bases its information on the current meta-game. You can read more about it on the Dota Plus webpage.
xQc Dropped
eSports news! Overwatch player xQc, playing tank for the Dallas Fuel team, has been dropped after receiving a four-game suspension for racist behavior on Twitch. They claim it’s a mutual decision, and he will be replaced by OGE come next season. Don’t be racist, kids.
Shaq Fool
For some reason, the Nintendo Switch version of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn costs more($39.99) than the PS4 and Xbox One version ($29.99). When this was the case for L.A. Noire, It was because they needed to utilize a 64gb solid state cartridge. The game’s developers have yet to comment as to why this price change is present, and if it will also be there for the digital version of the game.
Algo Bot
A new review. Algo Bot is a programming learning game. It teaches you about how algorithms and functions work, kinda. You can read my full thoughts about it here.
Fossil Hunters
If you want a game that I DID enjoy, there’s Fossil Hunters. It’s a cute and casual game about finding fossils and building dinosaurs. You can read my full thoughts about it here.
Thanks for reading, everone. I know I’m keeping things inconsistent as ever. If you interested in seeing what I’m playing. Check out my Twitch channel! I’m going to start streaming more often. Check back tomorrow for more video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!
Its Wednesday and I can’t think of any flavor text. Here’s the news.
- Gameplay Footage of Vampyr
- Gameplay Footage of The Call of Cthulhu
- Overwatch League Signs First Female Player
Vampyr Gameplay
Dontnod Entertainment is best known for Life is Strange, now their dipping their toes into a dark RPG called Vampyr. In this game, you play a doctor in 1918 London who has recently been stricken with vampirism. Use your newfound powers to help, or take advantage of, the town’s citizens. The news here is that video footage of gameplay has recently been released. Check it out for yourself. It certainly looks interesting.
The Call of Cthulhu Gameplay
There’s a 2018 remake of the famous 1981 first-person RPG, The Call of Cthulhu. In this game, you’re a private investigator who, while investigating a murder, discover the inevitable coming of the Old One, Cthulhu. From the same source as above, gameplay footage has been released. I’m especially excited for this game.
Overwatch League’s First Female Participant
Kim “Geguri” Se-Yeon has recently been signed onto Overwatch League team Shanghai Dragons. The team had a very poor start this season, and are hoping to improve their performance for the next stage with a number of new players. eSports being as male-dominant as it is, its good to see more women getting involved. I’m told she plays an amazing Zarya.
Today was 66% gameplay videos, not that I’m complaining. I’ve got a new editorial coming soon. Check back tomorrow for the next day of news and new accessories. Otherwise, have a great night!
