Monday 8-7-18: Fallout 76 Wont Launch on Steam, BETA is Entire Game/Carry Over, GTA Online’s Game Breaking Vehicle.

Fallout 76 Won’t Launch on Steam

Folks had noticed a lack of Steam in all of the information pertaining to Fallout 76. Now, according to a source at GameSpot, Bethesda have actively chosen to omit the game from the distribution service. Instead, the game’s PC version will be available on the Bethesda Launcher application. This is later confirmed by Marketing Exec Pete Hines on Twitter.

Presumably, this was to avoid the profit cut that Steam takes. While having multiple game launchers is a bother, this isn’t actually that much of a problem. It may inconvenience some people who are accustomed to the Steam interface and friend list, but the gameplay experience shouldn’t change. And who knows, maybe it’ll be added to Steam at a later date, like with Fallout Shelter.

Fallout 76 BETA and Launch Details

The FAQ for Fallout 76 recently updated to include more questions and answers. Though the answers they give are putting players off more than anything. According to the FAQ, the Break it Early Test Application (BETA) will contain the full game, and your progress will carry over into the launch game.

This has further reinforced the idea that this isn’t a beta session as much as it’s a pre-order bonus. The idea has first sprouted when it was discovered that the BETA would take place in October, a month before the game’s launch. While I’m sure they’ll use BETA feedback to improve the game before launch, it still feels like a marketing decision more than a technical one.

Broken GTA Vehicle

A new update came to Grand Theft Auto’s Online game mode, and people are upset about one of the vehicles found within the game code. It’s a flying rocket jet motorbike. Well, it’s actually the second iteration of an already existing one. It allows the user not only fly about with ease, this one is faster, more agile, and now comes with anti-missile measures.

Since GTA Online requires you be at the risk of other players interfering with business missions, many players fear that this new vehicle will make griefing all the more unbearable in online play. While the vehicle has yet to be released, it’s likely going to be soon.

That’s all for today. Tune in tomorrow for more of the latest news. There’s going to be a Smash Bros direct tomorrow morning, so we’ll likely see something new from that. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 7-24-18: Fallout 76 BETA Date, Nintendo DMCAs Emulators, and No Man’s Sky Update Today

Another day in the wild world or accounts payable. Not really, it’s video games. Here’s the news.

  • Fallout 76 BETA set for October
  • Nintendo is Taking Down Emulators
  • No Man’s Sky Update Today

Fallout 76 BETA Information

According to a recent posting by Community Administrator Jurassica (probably not their real name), Bethesda plans to start their BETA sessions for Fallout 76 in October. “Starting in October we’ll be selecting people who have pre-ordered the game from a participating retailer to enter our B.E.T.A. We’ll start small and grow over time as we prepare for launch.”

Let’s call this what it is, a pre-launch hype session. If you’re launching a beta a month before the game’s official launch, a Bethesda game, then I’m not expecting any major improvements before the game releases. Since the beta was locked behind preorders. it looks more like a “get a taste early” award for pre-ordering.

Nintendo DMCAs Emulators

It appears that Nintendo is issuing DMCA takedowns on various GitHub repos for console emulators. It started with the LoveROMS and LoveRETRO emulator sites and has expanded toward a popular in-browser Gameboy emulator. It’s clear that Nintendo is on a crusade for their intellectual property.

No Man’s Sky NEXT

Remember me reporting on a new update for No Man’s Sky? It added improved graphics, third-person view, true multiplayer, and more. Well, that update is launching today. I’ll be checking it out. If anyone else plans to get back into the game (for PS4), hit me up on my personal twitter, we can be space buddies.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading, everyone. Tune in tomorrow for more. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 7-3-18: LA Noire VR DRM Block, Super Mario Run’s $60 Mil, and More Info on Fallout 76

Groggy morning it seems, but one ripe with news, at least. Here is that news.

  • LA Noire VR Players Blocked by DRM Issue
  • Super Mario Run Grossed $60 Million
  • Todd Howard Talks About Fallout 76 More

DRM Noire

There have been reports that LA Noire VR edition on Steam has been entirely unplayable recently for those who bought it. Users are prompted to put in their product key for the game, despite it being already activated. Should they put their product key in again, it’ll tell them that the key is already in use (by you, of course). This loop has left players unable to play at all for several days now. Developer Rockstar Games is no stranger to bad DRM practices, but it’s unfortunate that this is happening all the same.

Super Mario Run to the Bank

Remember Nintendo’s first actual mobile game? Released in September 2016, Super Mario Run wasn’t exactly the success people were hoping for. That hasn’t stopped the game from making money, however. Recent reports indicate a total gross of $60 million. If you think that’s large, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp earned $20 million in its first two months, and Fire Emblem: Heroes earned over $294 million in its first year. While mobile games may seem like a niche market for casuals and all that elitist garbo, the reality is that it can be an extremely profitable venture, if you have the IPs and the quality of games Nintendo is known for.

Fallout 76 More Information

There has been yet another interview with game producer Todd Howard, and with it, we get a touch more information about Fallout 76. There were quite a few things he touched on, so I’ll just skim through them.

It’s called 76 because he liked the identity it gave. The destruction of bases isn’t so that you can raid and wreck, but so you can break out if someone tried to trap you. That’s why repairs are easy. You cannot kill a player under level 5, to help prevent harassment I guess. There will be fast travel. There will not be mounts. Howard dodged a question asking if other human players can give you missions.

That’s all for today. Thank you, everyone, for reading. Tune in tomorrow for more news. I’ve starting coding up a software bot to play Five Nights at Freddy’s for me. You might hear more about that, should it prove successful. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 6-26-18: Captain Spirit is Out, Fallout for Charity, and Mario Kart Labo

Long day yesterday, I almost overslept. Here’s the news.

  • Captain Spirit is Available
  • Fallout 76’s Country Roads for Charity
  • Nintendo Adds Mario Kart Support for Labo

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

If you tuned in to this year’s E3, you may have heard about Captain Spirit. The demo game follows 9-year-old Chris and his endless imagination, taking place in the Life is Strange universe. The single chapter game is not available on Steam. Your decisions in this will reportedly have an impact on when you play Life is Strange 2.

Fallout for Charity

When Fallout 76 was announced, it was to the tune of John Denver’s Country Roads. Since then, the cover has become the flagship tune for the game. Now Bethesda is taking the revitalized passion further. On July 4 (yep, Independence day), they will be releasing the cover on iTunes, where all the proceeds will be going to Habitat for Humanity. They’ve won my patronage, for sure. You can hear a segment of the song in the Fallout 76 E3 trailer.

Mario Kart Labo

Don’t you wish you could play Mario Kart with cardboard? Will if you own the Nintendo Labo, then you can! Nintendo recently announced that Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Switch will support the Toy-Con Motorbike build from the Labo Variety Pack. Simply select the Labo option in the game menu. Up to 4 people can play this way, though each will need their own joycons and Labo builds.

Neat news day, let’s keep it up! Tune in tomorrow for the latest video game news. Or don’t, I’m not your keeper. Anyways, have a great day!

Doom: Eternal

Bethesda announced a new Doom game, called Doom: Eternal. With a short cinematic trailer, we don’t see any gameplay. It’s phrased as if it’s Doom: Hell on Earth, but that’s not actually been made clear. Regardless, I look forward to it.

Quake Champions is Free for a Week

The Arena shooter is fast in development. To celebrate thier progress, Bethesda released a new gameplay trailer. They also are making the game free for the following week. Get that while you can.

Lots of new things are coming to the 2017 shooter from Arkane and Bethesda. First, it’s getting new game modes, NG+, and Survival. It will be getting a multiplayer prop hunt mode called Thyphon Hunter. It’ll be getting VR support for Typhon Hunter and a new puzzle game mode. They also announced the game’s upcoming DLC: Mooncrash. This new expansion will be a rogue-like die-and-repeat game mode with the singular goal of escaping the moon. It all looks cool, it’s a lot to take in. The trailer will have more info.

You ever wanted Elder Scrolls on your phone? Well, that’s what you’re gonna get. Elder Scrolls: Blades is an upcoming mobile game by Bethesda with a focus on ease of use. You can even invest in your town, building it up as you see fit. Blades will later come to PC and consoles, where your save data will sync across all devices. Best of all, it’ll be free!

Fallout 76

the thing everyone was waiting for. Fallout 76 will be an open-world online multiplayer survival RPG. Based in West Virginia, players explore a massive world full of new and strange monsters. There’s honestly a TON of new info about the game, base building giant sloths, nuclear silos you can control, photo mode, BETAs, power armor helmets. If you want a more in-depth low-down, go read my GZU post about it, or watch the video below. oh! RELEASES NOVEMBER 14!

Starfield

Bethesda announced the name of “their first new franchise in 25 years,” Starfield. We were presented with a very short trailer for it as well, depicting space. People are taking this to mean a Sci-Fi elder scrolls/fallout style game, but we honestly don’t know for sure. I’m very excited, all the same!

Elder Scrolls 6!

They announced it, and that’s literally it. You can watch the reveal trailer, but it won’t tell you a damn thing. Either way, it’s cool to know its in the works.

Tuesday 6-5-18: Vampyr Released, Fallout 76 Release Date Rumor, and App Store Free Trials

Second day in a row that I’m being a responsible adult. Here’s the news.

  • Vampyr Released
  • Fallout 76 Release Date Rumor
  • App Store Free Trials

Vampyr

If you’ve been reading regularly, you’ve likely seen the name Vampyr a few times. This is dark victorian RPG is developed by DONTNOD Entertainment, the developers of Life is Strange. You play the role of a doctor trying to treat a plague-ridden London, while also dealing with your own vampirism. It released today for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Fallout 76?

According to a short-lived listing by Amazon, the pre-order pages for Fallout 76 lists the game as releasing on July 31, 2018. The date has since been changed to December 31, 2019. Can it be trusted? An inside source has said that the game is coming “sooner than you think.” But at the same time, Bethesda has a history of using earlier-than-true placeholder dates. Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2 had listed for June of their respective years, yet they didn’t release until October. To be honest, its the secret source saying it’s coming soon that makes me think this one might be true.

App Store Free Trials

The Apple App Store for mobile devices has updated their guidelines, which adds a few “free trial” feature.

“Non-subscription apps may offer a free time-based trial period before presenting a full unlock option by setting up a Non-Consumable IAP item at Price Tier 0 that follows the naming convention: ’14-day Trial’,” the guidelines read.

This isn’t exactly gaming worthy, perhaps. But I don’t have much to report right now. Expect to see this new model present in future apps.

That’s all for today. Expect an announcement tomorrow regarding site content. Also, there will be the normal news tomorrow. Check-in for both of those things. Otherwise, have a great day!
