Nintendo Labo Institute of Play

Nintendo Brings the Labo to Local Schools With the Institute of Play

Nintendo is partnering with the Institute of Play to introduce the Labo to elementary schools. Next year, approximately 2,000 students will take part in their program.

Nintendo announced their partnership with the non-profit organization in a press release. The Institute of Play is known for working with teachers and schools for providing unique, hands-on learning activities. In terms of getting something in a school for educational purposes, you couldn’t ask for a better partner.

They’re launching a pilot program at schools in the greater New York area. They will work with the teachers to develop a Labo based learning guide, incorporated a more in-depth learning phase as the students build and play with the Labo parts.

After the pilot concludes, the teaching guide will be made publicly available for all. The program will also expand to 100 different schools around the U.S.

The Nintendo Labo is a set of DIY games for the Nintendo Switch. The primary gimmick is that the user builds unique tools that interact with the console. Some examples include a fishing rod, an RC car, and even a functioning piano. Making and interacting with the various games teaches the user about the related sciences involved. Like how vibrations can be converted into sound, stuff like that.

Monday 7-16-18: Steam Delays Lewd Games, Germany Bans Vague Release Dates, and the Nintendo Labo Contest Winners

Wow, what a weekend. Hello everyone coming in from the Animatronic article. Here’s Monday’s news

  • Steam is Delaying Adult Games
  • Germany Bans Vague Release Dates
  • Nintendo Labo Contest Winners

Lewd Games on Hold

Back in May, we talked about how Steam was causing a stink by essentially putting long-established lewd games on probation. It seems they’ve been working on a solution, and putting new games on hold until they have it running.

Love in Space, the developers behind Shining Song Starnova, recently tweeted out that their game is being put on hold until Steam can implement needed content moderation tools that they believe the game needed. Steam may be getting a mature game section, requiring age verification (they do that anyway) to look at. Time will tell.

Germany Against Release Dates

The Higher Regional Court of Munich has banned retailers from selling pre-orders for products that don’t have a confirmed release date, according to German news site Heise. The ruling was done with Media Markt, a German electronics franchise, in mind. This prevents the company from offering pre-orders for smartphones without release dates. The ruling covers other electronic goods as well, including video games. Ya know, I wouldn’t mind this state-side.

Nintendo Labo Champions

For those who didn’t know, Nintendo hosted their own Nintendo Labo Creation Contest. Participants were asked to create their best and most unique ideas for the Labo, and now the winners were announced. It ranges from solar-powered accordions, clocks, to a tea management game. It’s all very impressive. You can check out the winning entries on Nintendo’s site.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading. I’ve recently updated my Support page, for those interested in keeping the dream alive. Tune in tomorrow for another video game news post. Or check out The Animatronic. My first update post for it has done extremely well so far. I’m thinking about making the change to a post being about one topic at a time instead of this three-in-one deal. This would likely lead to only one or two news posts a day, though. But it’d be more in-depth. Let me know what you think. Otherwise, have a great day!

Tuesday 6-26-18: Captain Spirit is Out, Fallout for Charity, and Mario Kart Labo

Long day yesterday, I almost overslept. Here’s the news.

  • Captain Spirit is Available
  • Fallout 76’s Country Roads for Charity
  • Nintendo Adds Mario Kart Support for Labo

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

If you tuned in to this year’s E3, you may have heard about Captain Spirit. The demo game follows 9-year-old Chris and his endless imagination, taking place in the Life is Strange universe. The single chapter game is not available on Steam. Your decisions in this will reportedly have an impact on when you play Life is Strange 2.

Fallout for Charity

When Fallout 76 was announced, it was to the tune of John Denver’s Country Roads. Since then, the cover has become the flagship tune for the game. Now Bethesda is taking the revitalized passion further. On July 4 (yep, Independence day), they will be releasing the cover on iTunes, where all the proceeds will be going to Habitat for Humanity. They’ve won my patronage, for sure. You can hear a segment of the song in the Fallout 76 E3 trailer.

Mario Kart Labo

Don’t you wish you could play Mario Kart with cardboard? Will if you own the Nintendo Labo, then you can! Nintendo recently announced that Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Switch will support the Toy-Con Motorbike build from the Labo Variety Pack. Simply select the Labo option in the game menu. Up to 4 people can play this way, though each will need their own joycons and Labo builds.

Neat news day, let’s keep it up! Tune in tomorrow for the latest video game news. Or don’t, I’m not your keeper. Anyways, have a great day!
