Thursday 3-15-18: Monster Hunter Update and ARK on Mobile

It doesn’t really feel like Thursday if you ask me. I should probably say something about St Patrick’s day too. Woo, Irish, lassie, Guinness. Here the news, me boyo.

  • Monster Hunter Update
  • ARK on Mobile

Monster Hunter: Deviljho Update

The first update for Monster Hunter: World was announced recently. They confirm a release date of March 22. The expected new features are as follows

  • Devijho, the world eater
  • Deviljho armor and weapons
  • Balance changes
  • Immune to knockback when carving post-quest
  • character modification
  • Spring Blossom Fest in April

The update will be free to all players.

ARK: Android Evolved

The sci-fi dinosaur sandbox game recently announced that a mobile version of the game is nearly ready for launch, and it’ll be free-to-play. They’re performing closed beta tests now, and plan to launch in the spring. I don’t trust it, personally. Yet I’ve also held bitter since they released paid DLC when still in early access.

Thanks for reading everyone. Standard day stuff. Check back tomorrow for the final news thing of the week. Otherwise, have a great night!

Thursday 1-25-18: Miitomo Shutting Down, Super Zelda 64, and Monster Hunter: World

Thursday is upon us, and with is a mysterious air. Here’s the news.

  • Miitomo is Shutting Down
  • Modder Recreates Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Super Mario 64
  • Monster Hunter: World Releases Tonight

The Fall of Miitomo
Nintendo has announced that their first mobile app, Miitomo, will be closing on May 9, 2018. The social network app was a creative way to combine Miis into a social format. Unfortunately, it was too much a game, and not enough a social network. The inability to send messages, post statuses, etc caused interest in the game to drop harshly. Players will not be able to purchase any in-game currency starting today, though they can still get coins and such by playing.
Rest in Peace, Miitomo. You were almost good.

Super Zelda 64

Popular SM64 Modder Kaze Emanuar, best known for creating Super Mario 64 Online, is recreating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Super Mario 64. This project is more than just dropping Mario in a perfect likeness of the Zelda map. The game has been modified to be a blend between the Zelda world and story, and the Mario mechanics. The project isn’t completed yet, but the creator is posting updates via their social media. Check out a video detailing this mod here. It has a nice commentary, too.

Monster Hunter: World Release

Oh yea boys its Monster Hunter time! Or it will be in a few hours, that is. The long-awaited title is due to release tonight at midnight. Some people who preordered the game in-store have been receiving the copy early. Alas, I purchased it digitally, so I have to wait until midnight. Good luck with your carves, hunters!

  • Radeon HD 7870, 2GB/GeForce GTX 660, 2GB
  • DirectX11
  • DirectX Compatible Soundcard/chipset

This is for PC, if you hadn’t guessed.

Epic Explains Fortnite Issues
Recently there has been a technical vulnerability called Meltdown. This bug allowed you to access CPU processes one would otherwise not be allowed to access. When Epic updated their cloud software to protect themselves from the bug, it caused a huge spike in CPU usage. This has resulted in gameplay issues and login issues. Epic apologizes for the problems, and is working towards fixing it as soon as they can.

Yet Another Monster Hunter Beta
That’s right, another one. This one will be from January 18 at 6:00 PM PST until January 21 at 6:00 PM PST. Only PlayStation members will be able to participate. This is only a few days before the game’s console release of January 26. There will be new monsters in this beta session, including the game’s flagship monster, the Nergigante. I’m sold on this game at this point, though some early game time is certainly fine by me.

Capcom has also announced that one of the returning beasts to Monster Hunter World will be the Deviljho, the powerful monster known for eating its own severed tail.

Belgium Clarifies They’re Plans
Last year we heard that Belgium’s gaming commission is looking to ban loot boxes in video games because they are gambling. Recently they have clarified that they have not made an official conclusion, but that they are beginning investigation towards that concept. They are also looking into eSports betting. There will be more to report on this once the gaming commission reaches a conclusion.

GDQ Chat Causes Controversy
At This year’s GDQ, the organizers decided to set the official Twitch stream into Sub Only mode in order to reduce spam and make it easier to moderate. They stated that all sub earnings would be donated to charity. Regardless, people were unhappy they had to pay to chat, so people flooded over to account channels made purely with the intent of hosting GDQ and allowing users to chat as they want. Funny enough, one major host account, GDQ_Poverty, was flooded with hateful comments and remarks, resulting in the channel being banned. Its a big mess, you can read more about it in the news post I wrote here.

So… Much.. News…
Today was a rough day. My day job ran 2 hours longer than normal, and as you can see, lots of weekends news. Forgive me if my writing isn’t its strongest. I finished a new longform article about mobile apps that are video game styled life organizers, you can read about it here. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest news. Otherwise I’m writing to a brick wall. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 1-3-18: PUBG Plagiarism, Monster Hunter PC, and LawBreakers Blamed PUBG

Wednesday. Have I made a joke about how NES is in the middle of Wednesday? A joke as old as the NES is itself. Here’s the news.

  • Microsoft takes down the plagiarized advertisement
  • Monster Hunter: World on PC gets a release window, kinda
  • LawBreaker’s publisher blames PUBG on its failure

Plagiarized PUBG Ad

A few months ago, Reddit user macsterr created a concept for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox One (on the left). This ad was a player standing in a field growing out of the top of the console. A while after that, Microsoft posted a very similar ad (on the right) on their Twitter. Macsterr called them out about it, and now they’ve taken the ad down. Xbox frontman Major Nelson apologized for the situation and has said he is contacting macsterr. someone got fired, for sure.

Monster Hunter: World on PC

The Monster Hunter Twitter posted a video of producer Ryozo Tsujimoto thanking everyone for their support and feedback, and telling us that after the console release on January 26, free updates will happen that will contain new monsters. He also tells us that the estimates time for the PC port is “Autumn 2018.” Buckle up PC gamers, you got a while still.

PUBG is why LawBreakers Failed

Oh boy, do I have opinions here. LawBreakers released earlier this year, and it was met with an extremely mild reception. Turns out the world didn’t need another hero shooter, especially one that felt overly edgy and otherwise bland. When investors asked the publisher in a Q3 conference call why something they funded did so poorly, financial executive Shiro Uemura was there to shine some light.

“Our results in North America in the third quarter were below our outlook, mainly due to the sales from LawBreakers being below our expectations. LawBreakers is a unique FPS developed for core users. We had very high expectations for its launch; however, the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers.”

… Seriously? PUBG isn’t even the same genre as LawBreakers, not to mention it came out months before that did. Nor does this explain LawBreakers’ poor console sales, which PUBG wasn’t available on at the time. Overwatch is years old, and it has more reasoning to have hindered this game than PUBG would. The problem was that it was a boring and poorly balanced game. Boy got me heated over this bogusness.

Saltiness aside, today was a nice news day. I’m trying out having pictures with each topic, let me know if its a good of bad change. I’m using a phone app called LifeRPG to try and keep myself more organized, so I should be better about consistency. I’m thinking about writing an article about these kinds of apps. I digress. Be sure to check back tomorrow for more of the worthwhile content that is video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 12-11-17: Soulcalibur 6, Vacation Simulator, Fornite 50v50, Besiege, Mega Man Monster Hunter, and MediEvil

The weekend is over and boy do we have news. It’s gonna be a long post today, so buckle up and get some cocoa. Here’s what we have:

  • Soulcalibur VI Announced
  • Vacation Simulator Announced
  • Fornite: Battle Royale has 50 vs 50 Mode
  • Besiege gets Multiplayer and Level Editor
  • Mega Man in Monster Hunter
  • MediEvil is returning as a remaster

Soulcalibur VI
It’s been 6 years since we have seen a new Soulcalibur game, and now Bandai Namco has announced the next in the line. Due to release sometime next year, little is known about the game based on what we have seen. The trailer does tease a new fighter, however, one wielding a bladed quarterstaff style weapon (think Darth Maul’s lightsaber). You can see the trailer for yourself here.

Vacation Simulator
The creators of the hit VR game, Job Simulator, have created a spin-off about going on vacation. Vacation Simulator was revealed by Owlchemy Labs at the recent PSX. All we see is the player relaxing in the beach waters, Though there will undoubtedly be a variety of vacations the player can embark on. You can see the trailer for yourself here.

Fornite 50v50
Fornite gained a fair bit of attention when they released a free game mode called Battle Royale. Coasting on the fame of PUBG, this mode had 100 players combating to be the last one alive. Now there is a new variation to this mode called 50 Versus 50. As the name suggests, it splits those 100 people in half and pits them off against each other. You can heal anyone on your team, and cannot hurt them. The catch? The mode is only available until December 17. You can watch the trailer for it here.

Besiege With Friends
A recent update for Besiege has introduced 2 new features, Multiplayer and Level Editor. As the first one implies, you can now have 2 friends join you in your game. They will have their own section to build their own machine, as you cooperatively take on the levels challenging. The other is Level Editor. Now you can create and customize your own levels. build walls, landscapes, and AIs to your whim. The update is free, and you can get Besiege on Steam for $7.99.

Mega Man in Monster Hunter
In a promotional effort for next year’s Mega Man 11, the upcoming Monster Hunter: Worlds game will have an optional outfit for your felyne companion. The outfit will drop up your partner in a retro poly style recreation of Mega Man. This will also change the game’s music to various Mega Man tunes, depending on which weapon you select. Monster Hunter: Worlds released next month, with Mega Man 11 on the late end of that year.

MediEvil Rises From the Dead
The classic PS2 game, MediEvil, will be getting a remaster. The game will have improved graphics and 4K support on PlayStation 4 Pro. Unfortunately, that’s about all we know right now. Check out the (pretty vague) announcement trailer for it here.

Jeez, that was a lot of news. PlayStation Experience happened over the weekend, attributing to most of this. Thanks for reading everyone. I appreciate your patience with the days I don’t post. Check back tomorrow for more of the best in video games. Otherwise, have a great night!
