Join Branden and Justine as they discusses the older-than-you-think history of gaming hardware. Complete with recommendations for current consoles.

Normally I’d post a link to purchase the game we talk about, but given the nature of the episode, I can’t do that. So here’s a link to the official OUYA store. Notice how it’s empty?

Interested in Justine’s book, King of Fools? I can be purchased for $4 as an eBook on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or on the publisher website.

Earth Defense Force 5

Friday 9-21-18: Download PS Now Games and Earth Defense Force 5 Release Details

Hello, everyone! How about some news to get the day already started?

  • PlayStation Lets You Download PS Now Games
  • Earth Defense Force 5 Release Details

PlayStation Now

Now, PS Now users can download PS2 and PS4 games for offline access. For those unfamiliar, PS Now is a paid service where users gain access to a wide library of games, streamed to the player over the cloud. Now you can download them for offline play. These games will be playable for as long as your PS Now subscription remains active.

Personally, I like this. My internet service provider is unreliable a lot of the time. I’d feel safer having them available offline.

Earth Defense Force 5 Release Details

I’m looking forward to this. I used to play the older games when I was younger. But that’s not the news, this is. Earth Defense Force 5 will be coming to the West as a digital download only, no physical release, on December 11. It’ll be a full price game and will offer a deluxe edition with bonus rewards for more.

The work week is nearly complete! Man, I’m tired. Tune in Monday for a new week of news. Otherwise, have a great weekend!

Wednesday 5-23-18: Battlefield 5, RuneScape Classic, and

I nearly forgot to do the news today. But I did, and here is that news.

  • Battlefield 5 Reveal
  • RuneScape Classic Closes
  • PlayStation’s Big Plan is Three Years Away

Battlefield 5

Earlier today, developer EA DICE revealed the details of their upcoming Battlefield game. This time, they’re going back to World War II. Senior producer Andreas Morell says that they’re focusing more on the less common locations, such as Norway and The Netherlands. The last time the series was in WWII was in 2009 with Battlefield 1943. Battlefield 5 is set for release on October 19 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

RuneScape Classic

Don’t worry. I’m not talking about Old School RuneScape. RuneScape Classic was the game series’ first jump into online gaming. It would later evolve into what we know as Old School RuneScape, which would later evolve into modern RuneScape. After 17 years live, the developers announced that they will be winding down the classic version of the game, eventually removing it entirely. RuneScape Classic’s servers will go offline at 1 pm on August 6.

PlayStation’s Plan

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, PlayStation CEO John Kodera stated that they “will use the next three years to prepare the next step.” The statement follows a recent investor meeting where he stated that the PS4 was reaching the end of its life. While Kodera never made a direct statement about the sought-after PlayStation 5, what he’s said so far confirms that they aren’t going to do anything too massive in the next three years, but that the following years will be big for the company. These “next steps” may very well be a new console.

Thank’s for reading. Tune in tomorrow for more news, and tune in Friday for the Dark Souls episode of the Cozy Co-op, right in time for the remaster. Otherwise, have a great day!

Thursday 3-29-18: Doom Updates and Red Faction Remasters

It feels more like a Friday, if you ask me. Here’s the news.

  • Doom Update Adds 4k Support
  • Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Edition

Doom Update

Do you own a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X? Good news! A new update has launched for the two consoles that supposedly adds 4K resolution support. I haven’t played it, nor do I have a TV that supports 4K. But if you do, then I suggest giving the game another play.

Red Faction Guerrilla

THQ Nordic has announced a remaster for one of their most popular Red Faction games. This new version will launch later this year and will include such changes as improved graphics, lighting, shadows, and post-processing effects. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Thanks for reading. Today’s been exhausting. I was called into work early today. Check back tomorrow for another post about the latest in gaming. Otherwise, have a great night!

Monday 1-22-18: Beat Saber, Call of Duty: Prop Hunt, PlayStation Shoes and Figurines, and Rust Goes Gold

Monday again! For only the 105,297th time. Here’s the weekend news.

  • Beat Saber, the VR slashing rhythm game
  • Call of Duty: WWII to add Prop Hunt
  • PlayStation Shoes by Nike
  • PlayStation Figurines
  • Rust is leaving Early Access

Beat Saber, the Techno Jedi
I like to keep an eye out for new VR games. By that, I mean that I get excited whenever I see them on whatever internet outlet I’m browsing. This time We’ve come across Beat Saber. This game is a rhythm game like guitar hero, except that instead of strumming a plastic guitar, you’re in VR swinging lightsabers at blocks flying at you to the tune of some just stanky dubstep (the good kind of stanky). You can check out their recent teaser trailer here, its hype.

Call of Duty: Prop Hunt
The most recent Call of Duty game, WWII, has a special event taking place called The Resistance. In this event, there are free guns, double exp, and the temporary return of Demolition mode. The most notable feature, however, is the tease of a Prop Hunt mode. According to the event’s website page, players can participate in Prop Hunt, a hide and seek game mode inspired by the popular Garry’s Mod game. This event will be playable February 6 to 12, and 20 to 27. Get in on it while you can. You can watch a trailer for the Resistance even here.

Played Up Kicks
Do you like PlayStation? Do you like shoes? Well we put PlayStation into some shoes for you, dawg. Sony has partnered with Nike and Paul George to come up with the PG2 PlayStation Colorways. This sweet piece of footwear is decked inside and out with the console’s likeness. It even comes with a Dynamic theme download code! The release date is some time next month, with no word on price. I’m going to guess it’s a lot.
Check out the reveal trailer here.

The Totaku Collection
Ok may you don’t want shoes, how about some figurines instead? Sony has also partnered with Gamestop/ThinkGeek in an entirely unrelated event to bring about a small line of PlayStation game characters as 4-inch tall figurines. The series, called the Totaku Collection, includes 7 different characters, each priced at $9.99. They are as follows.

  • The Hunter, from Bloodborne
  • Crash Bandicoot, Titular
  • Parappa the Rapper, Titular
  • Kratos, from God of War
  • The Feisar FX350 racing ship, from Wipeout
  • Sackboy, from LittleBigPlanet
  • Heihachi, from Tekken

The Figures’ release date is March 23, and they will be sold exclusively at GameStop.

Golden Rust
Remember Rust? That weird open-world survival game where you ran around with a rock for hours and got shot by some random guy with a gun? After 4 years of early access, developers Facepunch Studios have announced that they will be formally releasing the game on February 8, 2018. This means a few things. They will now be focusing on stability and bug squishing, they will update monthly, instead of weekly, and the price of the game has risen from $20 to $35. I’m happy for the developers, and I hope them the best. You can read more about it at the developer blog post.

Long weekend. I went out of town to visit family. I had to do my work with my mini travel laptop (nicknamed The Gecko) since my main computer is garbage when not fully plugged into my mess of cables. I also have been given more work, I’m now writing news posts for Prepslife.com, A Social Prepper Network. Think camping and survival and such.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the latest and greatest in video game news. Otherwise, have a great night!

Wednesday 8-30-17: PS Plus Games, Shovel Knight updates, GDQ charity, and The Fractured But Whole

Wednesday 8-30-17

PS Plus Games, Shovel Knight updates, GDQ charity, and The Fractured But Whole

Leaks of Fallout 4 for PlayStation VR are appearing.

Recently it was discovered that visiting the Italian version of Amazon you can find a preorder option for
“Fallout 4 VR – [PlayStation VR ready] – PlayStation 4”
put up by what appears to be the official Bethesda seller for Amazon.
the page can be found Here.

Additionally, Reddit user Crisp_47 discovered that in the GameStop catalogue, under the upcoming PSVR releases, Fallout 4 VR was included in this list.
Post can be found Here.

While GameStop hasn’t been a reliable source of information regarding unannounced releases, the timing of these two discoveries diminish the plausibility that they are both false as well as coincidental to each other. Though Bethesda have yet to formally make an announcement about Fallout 4 VR coming to PSVR. Personally, I have a difficult time believing that fallout 4 can achieve and maintain the necessary 60 frames per second requirement of all VR games, Though I remain hopeful to be proven wrong.

VR Review – Farpoint

Spoiler Disclaimer: the game contains a few plot heavy moments. For the interest of the readers, I have left out mention of what those are in the article. Please excuse any vague language used regarding such.

Farpoint was a long anticipated first person shooter developed for the PSVR. Announced during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2016, Sony showed off what would be an action packed shooter based on an alien planet. As the PlayStation VR was merely a baby by then, this was considered a big step towards quality content being developed for the format. What stood out, however, was a special controller premiering with the game, known as the PSVR Aim Controller. Being a strong believer in the future of VR, I was eager to see how this game would turn out. After spending a few solid days playing Farpoint myself, it proved to be not what I was expecting.

Birthdays The Beginning, A childhood Inspired God Sim

When I had heard that the creator of Harvest Moon (Yasuhiro Wada) had released a new game for PC and PS4, my interest was instantly piqued. Having been a long time fan of the Harvest Moon series, I was very curious to see how similar or different this new game may be. Yasuhiro Wada pulls childhood inspiration on the origin of life from a TV show called Ultra Seven, and the creation of a personal world from a toy he had in elementary school that followed a similar idea. He has combined these childhood dreams to create a game of their likeness. Birthdays The Beginning is a “God Simulator” type game where the player has control over their own miniature world, altering the land and conditions to manipulate the thriving life on the surface below. Developed by ARC system works and TOYBOX Inc, and published by NIS America Inc. This game had a greater emphasis on the idea of encouraging evolution. An idea that had many people uneasy, having been left disappointed in the past by EA’s Spore. A game of a similar idea, that over promised and under delivered.

VR ReView – Statik Institute of Retention

Statik Institute of Retention

I stumbled across Statik while browsing the PlayStation Store looking for a new VR game to try, and I decided to give it a shot. The premise of the game is simple, you wake strapped to a chair, in a variety of scientific looking rooms with a strange box shaped device attached to your hands. The device is covered in various gizmos and gadgets of an equally scientific nature. The concept alone had a very unique appeal to it, which is what got my attention initially. I would find as I went along that it more than met my expectations.
