It’s about to get a whole new level of spooky up in here. Layers of Fear 2 has been announced as Project Méliès.

Publisher Gun Media has posted a video on YouTube titled “Project Méliès – The Reveal.” The video, spanning a little over a minute long, shows a derelict house as it grows increasingly more terrifying. At the end we see a small cinema room with a few guests, on screen is the words “Layers of Fear 2.”

Layers of Fear was a psychological horror game released in early 2016. It had quickly grown in popularity after releasing a rather effective demo. It centered around a husband and father who fell apart mentally after his wife was disfigured in a department store fire and his art was failing. It’s an absolutely terrifying game, personally speaking.

Layers of Fear 2 is also being referred to as Project Méliès. I found this interesting because Georges Méliès was a French illusionist and film director. He is commonly considered a major influence in the technical and narrative development of early cinema. considering the various film-esque imagery in the reveal trailer, it’s rather possible that this game will be in relation to him.

By the way, it’s pronounced “meh-lee-ess”
