Shirley Curry to Become a Skyrim Follower in This Fan-Made Mod

Shirley Curry, the elderly YouTube let’s player, won many of our hearts with her wholesome playthroughs of games like Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. One modder is honoring her by making her into an NPC follower in the game.

Shirley Curry is an 82-year-old gamer with a decent-sized following on YouTube. She’s best known for her Skyrim playthrough, spanning over 300 episodes at this point. Her gentle demeanor and wholesome outlook cultivated an even more gentle and wholesome community.

Skyrim modder Daniel Kemp has released a teaser trailer, revealing plans to develop a Skyrim mod that adds Shirley as an NPC follower

“Shirley will be available as a follower on the Nexus in early 2020. We will provide continuous updates as we add more content, and further down the line a quest-line will be added centered around Shirley herself.”

The character will emulate Shirley’s preferred combat style in her videos, a classic barbarian style with two-handed weapons and light armor. She’ll be available in both classic and remastered Skyrim. The developer even remarks on wanting her to be able to read books to the player. And don’t worry, the project has Shirley’s approval.

Last time we talked about Shirley, it was in regard to a petition her fans started to ask Bethesda to immortalize her in Elder Scrolls 6. While we don’t know if that’s officially happening, we do know that the efforts resulted in Shirley visiting the Bethesda headquarters and meeting Todd Howard himself.

The mod will be available on Nexus sometime early this year.

The efforts and accomplishments of the Shirley Curry community continue to warm my heart. The internet can be a pretty rude and cynical place., so it’s really nice seeing a consistent source of positive vibes and behavior from a community. You’re doing great things, folks.

Fans Petition that Shirley Curry be Immortalized in Elder Scrolls 6

Fans are petitioning for Shirley Curry, the elderly YouTube Letsplayer, to be immortalized in Elder Scrolls 6 by Bethesda.

Shirley Curry is an 82-year-old gamer with a decent sized following on YouTube. She’s best known for her Skyrim playthrough, spanning over 300 episodes at this point. Her gentle demeanor and wholesome outlook cultivated an even more gentle and wholesome community.

Curry had recently commented on a video regarding Elder Scrolls 6’s release date, remarking on how her age may not let her play it in time.

“I guess that puts the nail in my coffin. When Skyrim 6 comes out I’ll be 88! So I probably won’t get to play it.”

Once her followers, which she calls her grandkids, recuperated from an overly swelled heart, they got to work on a petition to Bethesda. Their goal: get the game studio to honor Curry in the next Elder Scrolls game. The petition is currently on Change.org, with 2,525 signatures at the time of writing this.

The idea of creating homage NPCs is nothing new to Bethesda. Erik the Slayer, a Skyrim NPC, is in reference to Erik West, who visited the studio before passing away from cancer in 2011. They also made Evan, who would connect with their brother through Fallout before passing from diabetes-related illness, as an NPC in Fallout 4’s Nuka Worlds DLC.

In the meantime, Reddit user phantom-scribbler is putting together a Skyrim mod that would make Curry into a follower. Curry has given the green light to the idea, and a modder has already been sourced. They need audio samples to pull from, however. So if you’re a fan of Curry’s video, feel free to suggest a moment to them.

Bethesda has not responded to the idea at this time. Till then, check out her very first episode of Skyrim, embedded below. She has also been playing the new Call of Cthulhu, which has my interest.

Friday 11-17-17: Nintendo Sales, Golden Joystick, and Skyrim Ports

Friday marks the end of the weekday. Good job everyone, you worked hard and deserve to enjoy the weekend. Here’s Friday’s news:

  • Nintendo tops hardware sales in October
  • The 35th Golden Joystick Awards
  • Skyrim comes out for Switch and VR

Nintendo October Sales
Nintendo announced in a press release to have the top hardware sales in October. The NPD Group, which tracks this kind of thing, stated that the number 1 selling hardware that month was the Nintendo Switch. This is no surprise. What is interesting is that the number 2 spot was also Nintendo, specifically the Super NES Classic Edition. The mini version of the old console sold out immediately everywhere. Supply couldn’t meet demand, making the product a rarity. They made enough to take 2nd place in units sold, at least. Good on ya, Nintendo. Though with the release of the Xbox One X this month, I’m willing to bet it won’t happen 2 months in a row.

The 35th Golden Joystick Awards
The UK based award organization takes the public’s votes to determine what the community thinks the best games of the year are. The award ceremony took place recently and the results aren’t surprising. The winner of the Ultimate Game of the Year Award went to… The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild! You can read the 40-something other awards that were given away at this event at the news post I made about it HERE.

Skyrim Ports
Sure the gaming community likes to joke about Skyrim being ported to everything. Well, now those fruits are coming to… fruition. Skyrim has officially released on Nintendo Switch. The portability of the legendary game has people ranting with enjoyment. Skyrim also released for VR. I had about an hour to try out Skyrim on the PSVR last night, and I admit that I was having a lot of fun running around smacking things with a mace and shooting fire from my hands. I might write a feature about Skyrim VR, we will see.

Another day of positivity! I always enjoy news days like this, they make me happy. Knowing that once I’m done with my writing I can go play Skyrim in VR only adds to my excitement. Thanks for reading everyone. Your viewership genuinely is important to me. Its Friday so there won’t be another daily update until Monday. Be sure to check in than to read about the latest and greatest in video game news. Until then, Have a great weekend.
