Monday 6-4-18: GuitarHero TV Closing, Evolve Servers Closing, and SEGA Justifies Cars.

Clearly I grew too accustomed to sleeping in over the weekend. Getting up to my alarm this morning was a drudge. Here’s the news.

  • GuitarHero TV is Shutting Down
  • SEGA Justifies Sonic in a Car
  • Evolve Servers Shutting Down

GuitarHero TV

According to a recent announcement by Activision, as of December 1, 2018, the GHTV mode within Guitar Hero Live will no longer be available to play. If you didn’t know about the service. It allowed players to access a selection of songs on virtual TV Stations. They could play the song currently running, but if they wanted to play the song again on their own time, they had to purchase said song. The service also featured music videos of these songs.

Additionally, as of two days ago, Guitar Hero Live for iOS will no longer be available on the App Store. Though if you already own it, you can still play. In-game purchases have also been turned off. If you already have in-game cash, you have until December 1 to spend it. More information can be found on Activision’s post.

SEGA Justifies Cars

With Sonic Team Racing having recently been announced, the discussion of “why is Sonic in a car?” has re-sparked. Finally, SEGA themselves have responded to the quandary.

“So we’re going to set the record straight just in case. If he’s not in a car guys, the race is over before it’s begun. You know this. You know he’s fast. He’s faster than cars, so we gotta equalize the playing field. So please, spread the word if you see anyone curious why he’s in a car, there you go.”

Works for me.

Devolved Servers

Evolve, the asymmetrical multiplayer game where four players hunt one large monster player, will be shutting down their online servers this year. The servers will be closing on Sept. 3, 2018. You can still play the game via peer-to-peer connections, made possible in a recent update, but that’s it. Microtransactions will also be coming offline, so make sure you use the last of your premium currency before then.

That’s all for today. I’m working on something that may result in a number of new game reviews appearing on the site. Stay tuned for that. Come back tomorrow for more gaming news and such. Otherwise, have a great day!

Thursday 5-13-18: Blessed Refunds, Lunastra, Team Sonic Racing, and SNES on the NES

I didn’t do the news yesterday. Forgive me, I was shopping for a toaster oven. Here’s the news.

  • Bless Online Refunds
  • Lunastra Comes to Monster Hunter: World
  • Team Sonic Racing
  • SNES Games on an NES

Bless Refunds

According to recent reports, Steam has been allowing refunds for MMORPG Bless Online, regardless of play time. Usually, Steam limited automatic refunds to games with less than 2 hours of play time. Though every so often, Steam will make an exception. Usually, it’s when a game is marketed well enough to gather many initial sales, but based on the design of the game, you don’t discover how poorly crafted it is until a few hours in. No Man’s Sky was another example of this.

Lunastra

Teostra is an intimidating fire lion elder dragon in the Monster Hunter games. But like with many animal breeds, the female is actually the larger, more powerful one. This is the Lunastra. In another free update by Capcom released today, Lunastra has come to Monster Hunter: World. Enjoy, hunters.

Team Sonic Racing

Last March, Sega teased a new Sonic game, one that implied motor vehicles. Now we know precisely what it is. Team Sonic Racing is the next upcoming Sonic game. And as the name implies, it’s a racing game. Working in teams of three, with multiplayer and co-op game modes. developed by Sumo Digital, Team Sonic Racing is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One this winter. Check out the trailer for it here.

SNES on an NES

Emulating games usually is when a more powerful device pretends to be an older one, in order to run the games and software designed for it. Modder Tom “Tom7” Murphy took this in the opposite direction. Tom7 has managed to get a regular, unmodified NES to run SNES games. This is done by heavily modifying the game cartridge hardware, with a raspberry pi installed therein to “downgrade” the game into something that the NES can handle. It’s very techy that only kind of makes sense to me. Watch the video on it here.

Thanks for reading, that’s all for today. The next podcast episode will NOT be Jade Empire. Justine was busy, so I recorded solo this week. Hope yall don’t mind. It’s about Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy. Come back tomorrow for another news chunk. Otherwise, have a great day!

Wednesday 5-9-18: Capcom Investor Plans, Sega Resurgence

Not as much going on today, it seems. Here’s the news.

  • Capcom Has Two Major Titles Planned for 2018
  • Sega President Seeks Resurgence for Sonic the Hedgehog

Capcom Plans

According to Business Divisional Strategies and Projections in FY2018 from Capcom’s Investor Relations portal, the game company plans to release two major titles in the 2018 fiscal year. Under the Digital Contents portion of the report, Capcom states the following.

  • Monster Hunter World has done well, and they will continue to promote it to keep interest going for the PC release.
  • They intend to do multiple more title updates to retain player interest
  • They plan to release “two major titles”

It remains uncertain as to what those two titles would be, but time will tell.

Sonic Stays Strong

In an interview with CNBC, Sega Sammy Holdings president Haruki Satomi spoke about his desire to bring the Sonic the Hedgehog games back to its former glory. He had remarked on the heavy criticism they had received with Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), and stated that since then, they’ve strived to ensure a newfound level of quality in their games. They’re very happy with the results of Sonic Mania, and they hope to achieve something to that level again. Take form this what you will.
