Undertale has risen from the darkness to confuse the heck out of me. Creator Toby Fox has released a new game, referred to as Deltarune, and it’s.. something.
It began with a number of all caps tweets from the Undertale Twitter. Worded like a cryptic discussion, it concluded in a link to a website, deltarune.com.
Upon visiting the link, viewers are greeted with a warning message, quoted below.
WELCOME.
PLEASE READ
THESE FINAL
WARNINGS.
THEN, TAKE
IT IN YOUR
HANDS.* THERE MAY BE MOVING OR FLASHING IMAGERY.
* YOU MAY HAVE TO OVERRIDE SECURITY PROTOCOLS TO USE THE PROGRAM.
* FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, YOU ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSION OF THE PROGRAM FOR 24 HOURS.
* YOU ACCEPT EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN FROM NOW ON.
Sure enough, viewers can then download a game installer.
Unfortunately, I‘m not going to tell you what the game actually is. Upon starting, it’s requested that no one reveal the contents of the game for at least 24 hours. After a brief battle between respect for developers and my journalistic integrity, I decided to respect Fox’s wishes. If you want to know, you’ll have to play for yourself.
There are a few things I feel comfortable telling you.
The first is that the deltarune is not a new idea to the Undertale lore. It appears in the game as a symbol, notably on Asriel’s chest. The second is that the game may ask for security permissions. This may be alarming, but it’s nothing to fear over. It is currently speculated that it is from the game checking the PC system clock.
I haven’t played through the game in it’s fully just yet, but I have started. Though with what I’ve heard, it’s best that you play through it while you can and avoid the internet spoiling it for you.
The game is free, by the way. You can download it at Deltarune.com.
UPDATE:
In the original article, I stated that The game accesses the original Undertale game data, causing the security check. This has since been proven false, and the article has been updated accordingly.

wait, Deltarune accesses Undertale’s data? Toby Fox said the two games are not connected. also i would think that people would be going crazy with theories and stuff if Deltarune actually accessed Undertale’s data, this is big but i haven’t heard this yet. can you prove it somehow? is there a source? sorry its just the prospect of this being true really changes things about the nature of Deltarune and i’d like to know
I did some follow up digging about it.
The original source for my claim was a data miner on reddit claiming so. They believed that the game altered the .ini files. Further investigations made after my initial article have since disproven this, and shown that the security check seems to be in relation to checking your computer’s system time.
I apologize for the misinformation, and will correct the article accordingly.
